Of all the creatures in the vastness of the universe, there is none like me. I was present at the birth of the universe, and I shall be there at its end. Though I ravage worlds to live, I bear no malice toward any living thing. I simply do what I must to survive. And why must Galactus survive? For, no matter how many worlds I devour...how many civilizations I destroy...it is my destiny to one day give back to the universe--infinitely more than I have ever taken from it. So speaks Galactus!

Solicit Synopsis
The origin of Galactus! Scientist Galan was once a resident of Taa, a peaceful planet facing imminent doom. With the universe folding in on itself, Galan is determined to be the savior of his race- but the cosmos have other plans. Galactus emerges from the chaos, and must feed on the vital forces of a dying universe!
Notes
- This issue is assembled from material reprinted from Fantastic Four #49, Thor #160, 162, 167, and 169 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Vince Colletta, and George Klein, with new material by Mark Gruenwald, John Byrne, and Ron Wilson, and entirely coloured by Andy Yanchus and lettered by John Morelli.
- This issue heavily modified the origin story. Taa now existed in a universe before the Big Bang, its people were killed by universal decay (instead of the Creeping Plague), and Galan got his powers from the Sentience of the Universe (instead of a star).
