History

Mary Jane Watson-Parker was married to Peter Parker, but died of radiation poisoning as a result of constant exposure to the radioactive isotopes in his body fluids, her last word to him being "Go..." when he was sitting in the window of her hospital room. Her death deeply affected Peter, prompting him to go from his original red-and-blue costume to the black version before he finally retired as Spider-Man. Living alone with his family and loved ones dead, Peter's mental state reached a point where he spent his time talking to a dummy he had acquired and dressed in Mary Jane's clothes and a wig to resemble her.

Eventually, as the situation in New York reached a peak, Peter re-donned the red-and-blue suit and returned to action against the Sinner Six, a hallucination he experienced of Mary Jane during this crisis reminding him that his true strength came from his ability to decide when not to use his power, and assuring him that they would be together again some day. With his enemies defeated, Peter left flowers on her grave, assuring her that they would be together again some day, but, for now, he had responsibilities.[1]
