Trivia

  • The console version has not changed from the game's original Dark Reign incarnation. It is also featured an exclusive Norman Osborn Iron Patriot character. Nevertheless, on July 4, 2024 Iron Patriot debuted in mobile and PC MPQ as James Rhodes.
Captain Carter
  • In honor of Captain America's 75th anniversary, Marvel Puzzle Quest introduced an alternate reality counterpart of Peggy Carter known as Captain America.
    • Captain America (Peggy Carter) is from a world where Steve Rogers was assassinated before being injected with the Super-Soldier Serum. As his friend, Peggy took his place and became her world's Captain America. This version eventually appeared in the comics as part of the Exiles.
    • Celebrating the game's 10th anniversary in 2023, Peggy Carter gained alternate counterparts combined with another two Marvel heroes: Peggy Carter (Iron Carter), wearing an Iron Man armor, and Peggy Carter (Worthy), a retired Peggy who lifted Mjolnir and thus gained all of Thor's powers.
  • Another five characters exist only in the game:
  • Many characters have appearances based on their Marvel Cinematic Universe versions, and specific iterations have even been released alongside new films (Ghost with Ant-Man and the Wasp) and television (Elektra and Daredevil coinciding with Marvel's The Defenders).
    • However, on occasion Demiurge will create without having the full film as reference, and thus there are discrepancies. Mysterio has the story set up in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailers of an interdimensional warrior and is grouped as part of the Heroes, when the movie reveals that is a ruse and he's still a villain.
    • The Black Widow version of Yelena Belova ended up released before the film itself given the movie was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the character's development was already advanced enough. The film's second delay also didn't stop the debut of Red Guardian, along with a new Black Widow-inspired campaign that even featured Taskmaster's look from said film.
    • Two instances were based on another game, 5 star Gamora, inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy video game, and The Hunter, who is downright an original character created for Marvel's Midnight Suns.
  • Spider-Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow are the only characters represented in all five character tiers.
  • Every character is represented by the cover of a comic. For instance, all four variants of X-Men #1 (1991) are present - A is Beast, B is 5-Star Gambit, C is 4-Star Cyclops and D is 3-Star Magneto. While many of the film-inspired characters just use comics depicting the Earth-616 versions of the characters, at times their covers will be film posters or specially commissioned artwork made by Demiurge's artists. The covers also change on special occasions, such as Halloween-inspired during the month of October.
  • Hulkling became a playable character after years as a support, meaning Hulkling could equip himself. To avoid such situations, new developers Broken Circle announced they would rework supports based on characters to instead depict locations and objects. Wong and sp//dr also became playable characters ever since.
    • Chewie had been a Support, and later gained a playable version of its MCU incarnation, Goose - both the solo Goose (Flerken Feline) as a 3 Star, and a 5 Star Flerken Family paired with its offspring from The Marvels.
Marvel Puzzle Quest 2015 Unreleased Characters 001
  • In 2015 the following image appeared on the official site of the game. It featured some characters, that could probably be added to the game in the future. Obviously it was just an April fools' day joke, because it also features an Iso-8 mutant and Norman Osborn, who were already in the game. Notably, only some of these characters were drawn by the artists of the game, while others are represented by comic arts. Kingpin and Iron Patriot debuted not long after the image was posted. And while Doctor Doom's Doomwar and Thor's Old King Thor costumes became playable much later, Ultimate Wolverine and Iron Man Model 45 are still unreleased to this day. Kid Loki also appeared later, but only on the Alligator Loki's cover. Some other non-playable enemies weren't added to the game as well. However, the design of Doombot from Fantastic Four (2005 video game) was later changed and reused for Arcade's Doombots.
