Dr. Curtis "Curt" Connors was a medic in St. Martin Hospital who helped Peter Parker when he injured his shoulder.^[1]

At some point, Connors was employed by Oscorp, and accompanied a security detail to investigate the arrival of a meteorite. When they discovered the presence of an alien symbiote, Connors sought to study it up close, but the symbiote latched onto his right arm in an attempt to bond with him, forcing the security to shoot his arm off. Ever since, Connors was entrusted to safeguard the meteorite, preventing the symbiote from nearing it and using it to invade the planet.^[2]

In an attempt to restore his arm, Connors developed a serum that accidentally turned him into a humanoid reptile that would become one of Spider-Man's earliest foes until Peter created a cure using Connors's blood. The cure only worked temporarily, however, and soon the Lizard was apparently back, roaming around somewhere in NYC. Peter kept the vial of blood as a memento.^[1]

When Harry Osborn fell ill to the Oshtoran Syndrome that had claimed his mother, his father, Norman Osborn, had Connors aid him in studying Harry and his disease, with Harry placed in stasis and bonded to the symbiote to keep the Oshtoran Syndrome in check.^[2] One year after Harry was placed in stasis, Harry began to regain consciousness, and Norman ordered Connors to release Harry from his container despite Connors's warnings.^[3]

Following Harry's release, Connors was employed at the Emily-May Foundation, checking on Harry's condition. He reunited with Peter, who in an attempt to hide his identity as Spider-Man claimed he used to visit Octavius Industries. However, Connors was also a target for Kraven, who sought to turn him back into the Lizard for his greatest hunt. Kraven's forces kidnapped Connors and locked him up at an abandoned zoo. When Peter, Harry, and MJ Watson arrived to save Connors, they were too late; Kraven had created a special serum that made the Lizard even stronger and more feral and injected it into Connors.

The Lizard escaped to his house to inject his old antiserum, but was unable to cure himself as he succumbed to Kraven's serum. Losing any semblance of his humanity, the now feral Lizard was not only on the run from Kraven's forces, but Peter, now armed with the symbiote, and his Spider-Man apprentice Miles Morales needed Connors to save Harry, whose illness had returned due to the loss of the symbiote. Armed with a new antiserum he created with Harry's help, Peter eventually caught the Lizard at a sewer and, after an arduous brawl, restored Connors to human form.

When Connors came to, he was horrified to find Peter with the symbiote and showed him the meteorite it came from. In response, the symbiote mutated and corrupted Peter. Fortunately, Peter left the lab before he could do any harm to Connors.^[2]

• Unlike most incarnation of the Lizard, whose arm had to be amputated following an explosion, this incarnation of Curt Connors had his arm shot off when the Venom symbiote attacked him shortly after crash-landing on Earth.
