Quote1 "Correct excess deviation." Our third principle. For a million years, we've done that. Earth has been protected from the Deviants. But we made a mistake...We missed some. The mutants. Their X-Gene came from the Deviants. They are not humans. They are Deviants...so they fall under our watchful purview. They have escaped the great Machine that is Earth and colonized Mars. Worse: They have escaped the chains of death itself. Their deviation will go on forever. This is excess deviation. It must be corrected. I, humble Druig, have been honored to be the Prime Eternal in these hours. You know my plans. I ask the approval of the Uni-Mind. Let me bring fire and death to those whom it's our eternal duty to correct. Quote2

Synopsis for 1st story

A mysterious all-powerful narrator manifests its future existence and expresses its desire to observe humanity. In New York City, Tony Stark is meeting up with Sersi for drinks to inquire about an apparent upcoming conflict coming from the Eternals. Her cheekiness is met by a surprise attack from the Phoenix-empowered Echo, who hauls Sersi into orbit before blasting her unconscious for Captain Marvel and Thor to pick her up.

On the X-Men's base in the Treehouse, Cyclops and Jean Grey look down to a group of humans at their doorstep protesting on the mutant nation of Krakoa's recently-disclosed Resurrection Protocols, and their exclusive use on mutants. Cyclops expresses that it's a matter of practicality that they can't open their use to everyone. Meanwhile in Krakoa, Nightcralwer is discussing with Mystique and Destiny about the inevitability of conflict when the latter is suddenly overcome with a vision of the future. She warns that the Eternals will try to kill them all. Mystique and Destiny go brief the Quiet Council while Nightcrawler uses one of the Gateways to arrive on Mars, recently colonized and rechristened Arakko, to pass the information to the Great Ring of Arakko. He is welcomed by Magneto, Storm and Cable.

Inside the Avengers Mountain, Sersi wakes up to find herself prisoner to Iron Man, restrained in a psychically isolated room. She remains uncooperative, her posturing making Stark more suspicious. Captain America steps into the room, arguing that the Avengers need to show Sersi some trust since she used to be in their ranks. After the Avengers disclose that the Eternals seem to be going to war, and that they have detected a series of low-level pulses of Eternal-like celestial energies around the world, Sersi clarifies that her and her friends had recently left the society that is the Eternals, so she is not the one Eternal they should be worried about. In Olympia, the Prime Eternal Druig makes his case to the Uni-Mind that the mutants are an offshot of the Deviants, and as such, their excess deviation must be corrected, highlighting their colonization of Mars and their attainment of immortality. After being approved by the Uni-Mind, Druig reports his progress to Uranus, who is being held in the Exclusion. Druig simply intends to use the mutants as an external foe to unite the Eternals. He also informs his ancestor that, for the first time in hundreds of thousands of years, he is going to be let out for a single hour.

Later, Druig meets up with Moira MacTaggert at the Damocles Foundation's Corporate HQ in Los Angeles. Moira, who had recently turned to the anti-mutant organization Orchis, has been cooperating with Druig since their interests align. She is infuriated that she was cast out from Krakoa despite helping found it, and that Destniy was brought back to life for Mystique against her wishes. In the meantime, the Quiet Council has convened in Krakoa. A portion of the Eternals formed a Uni-Mind to attack the nation psychically. The telepaths of the Quiet Council defend themselves and Krakoa against this invisible assault. An attack flight of Eternals rains down from the sky, and the X-Men come to Krakoa's defense. MacTaggert brings Druig's attention to the millions of hardened warriors that inhabit Arakko. In Mars, sudden flash of light appears. Druig assures Moira that there will be a lot less than a million by now. Back in Krakoa, Wolverine intercepts Jack of Knives' attempt to kill Hope Summers after having murdered Egg, both members of the Five, the mutant team responsible for the Krakoan resurrection process. Jack and the rest of the Eternal forces retreat. Moira chastises Druig for missing his one shot at taking down Krakoa. As he teleports away, Druig assures her that his plans extend beyond this first strike.

In Krakoa, Egg is brought back to life as the mutants recover from the attack. Nightcralwer crashes into the scene, asking the Five to bring back Arakko's leadership. Cable is returned to life and demands to know what happened. In Arakko, Uranus counts down the seconds before he is teleported away. The entire population of Arakko has been reduced to skeletons. As he returns to his cell, he briefs Druig. He asks to be let out again since Druig failed on his end, but the Prime Eternal assures him he has other options first. Back in the Avengers Mountain, Sersi's interrogation is interrupted when Iron Man receives news of the attack on Krakoa, as well as energy spikes concentrating on the western US seaboard. Using broadcasting technologies, Druig denounces mutantkind to the entire world, assures humanity that the Eternals will deal with them, and heralds the arrival of the Hex, a group of five giant-sized monstruous Eternals that emerge from cracks underwater. Captain America gathers the rest of the Avengers, but Iron Man tells him to go ahead while he investigates an intrusion alarm. He confronts the intruders: Ajak and Makkari, who are holding Mister Sinister prisoner. Ajak explains that Druig's war is born from the Eternals' principles, so they could build a god to put an end to it. Iron Man agrees to the plan, but wonders how they are going to make a god in a few hours. Ajak gestures to the fact that the Avengers Mountain is a dead Celestial.
