Amane Ubuyashiki ( (うぶ) () (しき) あまね Ubuyashiki Amane?), née Amane Himorogi ( (ひも) (ろぎ) あまね Himorogi Amane?)[2], is a supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is the wife and primary caretaker of Kagaya Ubuyashiki and the mother of Hinaki, Nichika, Kiriya, Kanata, and Kuina Ubuyashiki.

Appearance[]

Amane is a woman of average height and pale skin complexion. She possesses large, plum purple eyes and short eyebrows, a trait seen in her children. She wears her white hair down and swept to both the left and right at the front and in a short ponytail in the back, with two strands of hair loose at the side of her head. Her beauty is apparent as Muichiro Tokito once described her as appearing like a forest spirit when they first met, and Mitsuri Kanroji, being asked to speak by Amane, took the chance to admire her beauty.

Amane wears a salmon-colored kimono with an ombre to orange at the top with flower patterns with a dark-indigo haori with numerous blue butterfly-patterns. She also wore a brown with a paler shade striped-obi with an orange obiage supporting it.

Personality[]

Amane explains the mark's origins

Amane's calm, professional, and serious demeanor.

Amane is shown to possess the same quiet, strict and serious disposition as her husband and children, acting professionally and tactfully when communicating with the Hashira during her time filling in for husband when his health began to fail. She is shown to be just as devoted to the Demon Slayer Corps as her husband and children as well, and spared no time in trying to figure out anything that could be used to turn the tide of battle in to their favor.

As well as this, Amane has been shown to truly love and care for her husband, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and is seen constantly nursing him and staying by his side as his body slowly began to fail and his health further worsened. In fact, the only time Amane dropped her usual controlled demeanor was when Kagaya's health began to severely plummet and he began to cough out blood, causing her to immediately panic and worry as she barked out orders for her children to help her treat him, showing a genuine sense of love between them. During a moment alone with him, Kagaya held her hand and thanked her for everything she has done, causing her to quietly cry and return his sentiment.

Kagaya and Amane's final moments

Amane's last moments with her husband, staying with him till the end.

Later, upon Kagaya reaching the end of his life and being approached by Muzan, Amane chose to stay by his side and commit suicide via an explosive trap in order to die together with him and severely injure Muzan at the same time, fully showcasing her immense devotion to both her husband and the Demon Slayer Corps. Amane was also noted to have been a loving, caring and strict parent to her children, making sure to raise them to be independent and emotionally strong in order to prepare them for her and her husband's inevitable deaths. She showed a strong amount of faith and love towards her children and their potentials.

History[]

Amane first met the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps at the age of 17, when Kagaya was only 13 years old. She was specifically selected by a priest to become Kagaya's wife in order to care for his medical needs, but he only agreed to the marriage on the condition that she cared for him on her own free will.[3] Amane gave birth to quintuplets; Hinaki, Nichika, Kiriya, Kanata, and Kuina.

Amane Ubuyashiki meets with Muichiro

Amane meets Muichiro Tokito.

Amane once travelled to the mountains in order to recruit the descendants of the first Breathing Style, the young twins Yuichiro and Muichiro Tokito. She explained their lineage and asked them to join the Demon Slayer Corps; despite Muichiro's excitement, Yuichiro bitterly turned her away and forced her to leave. She would attempt several more times to recruit them but was finally driven away when Yuichiro splashed her with water. Some time later, after the twins were attacked by a demon and laid in their house alone for several days, Amane and her daughters Hinaki and Nichika found them. Unfortunately, Yuichiro had already died.

Amane stops Nichika from interfering

Amane stops Nichika from interfering with Muichiro's training.

Amane held the barely living Muichiro and prayed he would survive as her daughters tended to his wounds. When he recovered, Muichiro began to train intensely and relentlessly. Nichika attempted to stop him out of concern but Amane prevented her, reassured that despite Muichiro's badly injured state, he was doing something he needed to do.

Synopsis[]

Mugen Train Arc[]

Amane is seen accompanying her husband as he visited the graves of fallen Demon Slayers. Later, they hear about the death of the Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, with Kagaya expressing his proudness in the young man and believing he would soon join him.

Swordsmith Village Arc[]

Amane explains the Tokito family's ancestry

Amane explaining the Tokito twins' ancestry.

During his battle with Upper Rank Five Gyokko, Muichiro was nearly killed as he was poisoned and nearly suffocated in one of the demon's Blood Demon Arts. His life flashed before him and he recalled his forgotten past, including the first time he met Amane and her attempts to recruit them as Demon Slayers. Later on, after awakening mysterious marks that dramatically enhanced his physical abilities, Muichiro confront Gyokko with uncharacteristic anger, noting that it was the same boiling rage that allowed him to train even whilst severely injured. Amane had recognized his will to push on and even stopped one of her daughters from interfering with his training.

Hashira Training Arc[]

Amane leads the emergency meeting

Amane leads the Hashira meeting.

Following Kagaya's further worsening state, Amane became the one to address and speak with the Hashira in his place. During an emergency meeting following the attack on the Swordsmith Village, she addressed the coming conflict that will arise when Muzan will attempt to take Nezuko Kamado, now immune to sunlight. She then speaks to the Hashira about Mitsuri Kanroji and Muichiro, being told that marks appeared on their bodies in their battles. Amane explains that these marks have been known since the Sengoku period but little information is known about them.

Kiriya, Amane, and Kanata confused by Mitsuri

Amane confused by Mitsuri's explanation.

When Mitsuri, who had been admiring Amane's beauty privately, is first asked to explain how her marks manifested, her unusual slew of gestures and sound only confuse everyone, even leaving the usually collected and stoic Amane bewildered. Muichiro then speaks about specific conditions he felt in his battle, mainly his high body temperature and rapid heart rate. With information now available to help them, Amane adds one more crucial piece of information about the marks, which disconcerts the Hashira. She then left the meeting, leaving the Hashira to discuss their new plan for the future.

While treating Kagaya in their residence, Amane informed him that Gyomei Himejima's proposal of Hashira Training is underway, bolstering the Corps' strength. She adds that their children have accepted his will and are willing to do anything to defeat Muzan. Kagaya then reached for her hand; Amane holds his and listens as he thanks her for everything he had done. Touched by his words, Amane tearfully tells him it had been her pleasure.

Abilities[]

Overall Abilities[]

Leadership Skills: When her husband's health begins to fail, Amane shows herself to be a highly competent leader and military commander, having been able to fill in for her husband in his duties as Corps Commander for the Demon Slayer Corps during the final days of his life. This is seen when Amane possesses the necessary skills to direct and lead the Hashira themselves despite their extreme personalities and dispositions.

Medical Skills: Amane has also demonstrated to be a highly skilled doctor, nurse and caregiver. This is seen where she is the one primarily in charge of treating her husband’s illness and caring for his ailing body. Amane later further showcased her medical skills when she managed to treat and successfully save Muichiro Tokito after he was severely injured fighting and killing his first demon prior to joining the Demon Slayer Corps.

Trivia[]

  • Amane's given name is completely comprised of hiragana characters, thus having no semantic properties. However if her Mandarin name is taken into consideration, her name contains the Kun'yomi Kanji/Hànzì for "heaven" ( (あま) ama?) and "sound" ( () ne?).
    • Amane's maiden name "Himorogi" ( (ひも) (ろぎ) ? lit. "divine fence") refers to sacred altars in Shintō belief for worship towards the Kami.
  • Amane came from a family of Shintō Priests. She was born with white hair, and for the sake of her children and husband's health, she performed purification rituals even on snowy days, never missing a single one.[2]
  • Amane is older than her husband by 4 years.[3]
  • When Amane gave birth to quintuplets, it amazed both the midwife and doctor.[2]
