Xbox Games Showcase: Microsoft May Be Planning Another Surprise Launch; Hand-Held Console Tease Possible, and More

It also looks like Xbox has changed the box art for physical copies of games.

Xbox Games Showcase: Microsoft May Be Planning Another Surprise Launch

New leaks are suggesting that Xbox will do a surprise launch of one of its first-party games at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, and the company will also be teasing their new Xbox Portable hardware. There are several games that Xbox has lined up such as Avowed, and Towerborne, and there are also game DLCs coming for the likes of Starfield, Diablo and Flight Simulator. The leak suggests that it could be any of these titles or expansions.

The leaker is known for accurately revealing the Hellblade 2 release date, leaking Overdose gameplay, and leaking Lords Of The Fallen’s arrival of Game Pass, among other information. While the leaker has claimed that he already knows which game Xbox will be shadow-dropping at Xbox Games Showcase, he has not revealed the name of the title.

Xbox shadow-dropping a new game out of nowhere is not all that hard to believe as well, since they opted that path for now-closed Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush as well. The surprise launch worked out well for the publisher, as both fans and critics took a liking to Hi-Fi Rush when it launched all of a sudden at Microsoft's Developer Direct showcase in 2023.

Xbox Portable tease at Xbox Games Showcase

The rumoured Xbox Portable might turn out to be real after all, suggests the leaker. He claims (spotted by a Reddit user) that Xbox will be showing a teaser for their upcoming hardware at the event. The rumoured handheld gaming device is expected to run games available on Xbox as well as titles on the Game Pass. While specs are unknown, the device is invariably expected to run on Windows 11, Microsoft’s own operating system which is already present in rival handheld devices such as the Asus ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw.

Xbox is updating its game box art

Xbox has apparently updated its game box art which is present on physical copies of a game. Rather than mentioning the supported platforms in black font on a white background near the Xbox logo (at top-left) like before, the new game box art will list the platforms at the top-right, which will sit on top of the artwork of the game. This leaves up the Xbox logo at the top-left, and creates more room for the game artwork. VGC spotted these changes in Limited Run Games’ listing for Clock Tower Rewind and also in the Xbox version of upcoming game, Kena Bridge of Spirits.
