Microsoft Proteus Controller for Gamers With Disabilities Available for Pre-Order; Here Is All We Know and More - Xbox

As part of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day for Xbox, Microsoft and peripheral company ByoWave announced the Proteus Controller for disabled individuals on May 15, 2024. This $299 modular controller assists Xbox gamers with disabilities in customising their controllers according to their needs. Alongside this, Xbox also shared new updates for a number of titles available on its cloud gaming service. Here is everything you need to know about the recently announced Xbox Proteus Controller and the improvements to cloud titles.

ByoWave Proteus Controller

The controller, announced via a blog post, is available for pre-order on ByoWave's website for $255. It features a USB-C charging cable and a Bluetooth dongle. We also get left and right handles for a traditional gamepad. The "snap and play" feature allows gamers, especially those with disabilities, to enjoy over 100 configurations and LED variations. The faceplates consist of buttons, a directional pad, and analogue sticks, allowing players to create diverse configurations. However, it does not offer support for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles.

Additionally, Microsoft is updating its $99.99 Xbox Adaptive Controller. The updated controller will support more accessories. Each USB port will now have up to 12 buttons, a second stick, and a hat switch. As per Microsoft, the firmware update will roll out to Xbox Insiders over the next few weeks. It will be available to the public in a few months.
