Xbox Sets Up New Game Preservation Team, Executive Kareem Choudhry Departs After 26 Years, and More

Sarah Bond, Xbox president, has revealed several interesting details in a new email sent to employees. Bond is setting up a new team dedicated to game preservation. This team is tasked with making sure that the current Xbox game library remains accessible in the future for players amid the ever-evolving climate of technological and hardware leaps.

Bond wrote in the company email (as reported by Windows Central), “We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself.”

Microsoft also confirmed to Windows Central that the contents of the email were genuine, hence confirming the establishment of the game preservation team. It has also been reported that Microsoft will speak more about this at the Xbox Showcase, which will take place on June 9, 2024 (as reported by The Verge).

Executive Kareem Choudhry leaves Xbox

Windows Central also reported the departure of Xbox executive Kareem Choudhry who is leaving Microsoft after over 26 years of service. At Microsoft, Choudhry was working on Microsoft’s AI plans for Xbox including the new Xbox AI chatbot. He was also an important part of Xbox’s efforts to enable backward compatibility support and was a key member in the introduction of Xbox Cloud Gaming in 2019.

Xbox will observe Sea of Thieves' performance on PS5

The Verge’s Tom Warren has said that Sea of Thieves will be a “key test for whether other games might make their way to PS5 or Nintendo Switch.” Sea of Thieves will join PlayStation on April 30. The once-exclusive Xbox game will be joining Pentiment (released on February 22), Hi-Fi Rush (March 19), and Grounded (set to release on April 16).

“Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans tell me that the company continues to evaluate other Xbox-exclusive games coming to PS5,” said Warren.
