Gorilla (ゴリラ,   Gorira?) is an antagonist of Greenman, in an episode of Go! Greenman titled, Greenman vs. Gorilla.

Name[]

The monster's name, Gorilla (ゴリラ,   Gorira?) came into being due to the rights of the King Kong character's use by Toho being lost.

Design[]

Appearance[]

Seven years after the production of King Kong Escapes, the GoroKongu suit was reused in the series Go! Greenman for the this kaiju. The suit is also called the ShodaiGorira (初代ゴリラ?), and shares the same aesthetic.

Roar[]

In Go! Greenman, Gorilla's roars are reused Black King roars.

Plot[]

Go! Greenman[]

In the episode, Gorilla was a creation of Tonchiki, created for the sole purpose of retrieving the blood of children in order for Maoh to escape the Underworld. After being teleported to the overworld and attempting to kidnap a young boy, Greenman was signaled to Earth by the child, where he did battle with the monster. As Greenman and Gorilla fought, Tonchiki drew a ring around them, turning the fight into a sumo match. Eventually, Tonchiki cast a spell on Gorilla, causing him to grow to giant size. Luckily, Greenman also grew and Gorilla was eventually defeated. The King Kong suit used is from 1967's King Kong Escapes. In the series, he was the thirty-ninth monster to battle Greenman.

Trivia[]

  • To make the suit feel more ape-like, poles were put into the arms of the suit for the suit actor to hold on to. This also helped the suit actor make more natural movements with the suit's long arms.
    • By the time the suit was needed for Go! Greenman, the poles had been removed. Because of this, it was harder for the suit actor to make realistic movements. Thus, throughout the episode the suit was utilized in, the suit's arms would flail around very unnaturally.
