REST API: Remove post status prefix from REST API responses #7019

When using the /posts or /pages, REST API, for private posts or pages, you get the following title property:

title: { raw: "Some title", rendered: "Private: Some title" }

As discussed on the trac ticket, this PR removes the prefix from private posts (just like what we do for protected posts)

I decided to reuse the same function protected_title_format even if it has "protected" in its name. We can't rename it since it's a public function and I don't really think it's worth duplicating it.

Test using WordPress Playground

The changes in this pull request can previewed and tested using a WordPress Playground instance.

WordPress Playground is an experimental project that creates a full WordPress instance entirely within the browser.

Some things to be aware of

  • The Plugin and Theme Directories cannot be accessed within Playground.
  • All changes will be lost when closing a tab with a Playground instance.
  • All changes will be lost when refreshing the page.
  • A fresh instance is created each time the link below is clicked.
  • Every time this pull request is updated, a new ZIP file containing all changes is created. If changes are not reflected in the Playground instance,
it's possible that the most recent build failed, or has not completed. Check the list of workflow runs to be sure.

For more details about these limitations and more, check out the Limitations page in the WordPress Playground documentation.

Test this pull request with WordPress Playground.

LGTM, but a review from a component maintainer would be good

Looks good!

* in a machine-readable format, we remove the "Protected: " prefix.
* By default, WordPress will show password protected or private posts with a title of
* "Protected: %s" or "Private: %s", as the REST API communicates the status of a post
* in a machine-readable format, we remove the prefix.

Sorry to be pedantic, but does this change warrant a @since annotation?

For me it doesn't, the function didn't change.
