Void Rivals is the first comic series of Skybound's Energon Universe.
The comic series mixes in a few named Transformers with several characters from The Transformers: The Movie (1986) and the season of the original Transformers animated series that followed the animated movie.

In Void Rivals, war rages around the Sacred Ring, where the last remnants of two worlds have collapsed around a black hole in a never-ending war. However, when pilot Darak and his rival Solila both crash on a desolate planet, these two enemies must find a way to escape together. But are they alone on this strange planet? And what dark forces await that threaten the entire universe?

Several characters from the Transformers Universe show up in the pages Void Rivals. In the Energon Universe comics, some of these characters are now main characters in Void Rivals, driving their own storylines. During the first year of Energon Universe comics, Transformers and G.I. Joe characters have crossed over into each others' comics, but no G.I. Joe characters have shown up in Void Rivals.
Beyond Jetfire and Shockwave, all of the Transformers characters in Void Rivals are from the 1986 movie and/or season 3 of the Gen1 Transformers cartoon.
