Beef

Beef as he appears in the G.I. Joe Roleplaying Game

Raw Beef is an unused character concept developed by Hasbro.

In the 1980s, a character named Raw Beef was proposed by the toy designers as a new Cobra character, a spider wrangler who would sneak into G.I. Joe camps and hide poisonous spiders in sleeping Joe’s boots. The character never made it to production, and likely never progressed beyond a concept art stage.

The unused concept was used as the basis for Beef, a character who appears in the G.I. Joe Roleplaying Game by Renegade Game Studios. He is used as a part of the introductory adventure, Snake Pit.

The villains of Snake Pit are a team largely generic troopers know as Scar Squad given names and backstories; Faceless (Cobra Officer), QR (Tele-Viper), AWOL (Cobra Trooper) and Grease-Wheel (Motor-Viper). The only semi-original character is Beef. During the adventure, Beef serves as an obstacle to the player characters, threatening them with a hoard of Goliath Birdeater Spiders that are controlled by his R.A.W. (Robotic Arachnid Wrangler) Drone.

Beef is described as brilliant but naïve and taking what he’s told at face value. He is essentially being tricked by Faceless with false promises of becoming a part of Cobra.
