The EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a game-changer for global sustainability reporting! The CSRD mandates detailed sustainability reporting from approximately 60,000 companies, including 10,000 non-EU entities, based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). Requirements include an annual double-materiality assessment and the identification of material impacts, risks & opportunities (IROs), rigorous data transparency, and third-party assurance. By setting these rigorous standards, the directive impacts companies beyond the EU by establishing new norms for global corporate governance. The European Commission has tasked the Committee of European Auditing Oversight Bodies (CEAOB) with developing non-binding guidelines for sustainability reporting assurance - to outline procedures for assurance opinions.
