Squish the bugs - for Karl!

Mobile Enemies

Grunts are basic melee enemies who will constantly walk towards the player, dealing damage when within biting range. They come in two colors: brown and blue, the sole difference being that blue grunts have more health than brown grunts.

Fast Grunts are very similar to regular grunts, except they are considerably faster and have less health than their cousins.

Slashers are upgraded melee enemies, featuring more health and higher damage than Grunts.

Spitters keep a medium distance from the player and fire purple acid shots. Spitters will not approach to melee, and will retreat when the player gets too near.

Exploders are larger, orange Glyphids who will approach the player and then explode in a large AOE. They can be killed from a distance to trigger their explosion, or a careful player can dodge in and out of their trigger range to cause them to explode instantly. Exploders are very valuable for clearing swarms of enemies, as their explosion will damage other bugs. Most swarm events will spawn medium to large waves of Exploders that can herded into groups to trigger chain reactions.

Praetorians are large melee enemies that are much more durable than the other bugs, and can slowly dig out terrain in their pursuit of the player.

Mactera are flying melee enemies who can passively fly over terrain. Walls, vines, and voids mean nothing to Mactera, who fly together in small clusters in the Hollow Bough, only hurting the player should you run directly into them.

Q'ronar Younglings are melee enemies that can be found in the Salt Pits. They travel aimlessly, bouncing off of the walls and hurting the player should they run into you.

Mini Elites

Mini Elite varieties can spawn occasionally within the swarms of enemies, standing out as much stronger opponents compared to the dozens of weaker bugs surrounding them.

  • Mini Elite Grunts, Fast Grunts, and Slashers deal and take more damage than their fodder counterparts and they are much faster.
  • Mini Elite Spitters shoot a spread of three shots rather than just one. As with all other spitters, they will retreat should the player approach them.
  • Mini Elite Mactera will actively pursue the player like the Elite Mactera, but they have less health.
  • Mini Elite Q'ronar Younglings can break the soft terrain of the Salt Pits while rolling, only bouncing off of minerals and hard stone. They also have a slight ability to steer themselves towards the player.

Static Enemies

Stabber Vines are stationary melee enemies, attacking the player should you get close. The attacks aren't predictive, so the greatest danger lies in being too slow or standing still.

Spitballers are stationary ranged enemies that fire large green shots at the player.

Passive Enemies

Lootbugs are passive creatures that mind their own business, not bothering to pursue the player. Getting within mining range allows you to attack the Lootbug, and killing it gifts you with some gold and nitra.

Golden Lootbugs are larger and shinier than regular lootbugs, and upon death drop a rather generous amount of gold. We're rich!

Huuli Hoarders are uncommon passive creatures, which quickly run away when attacked. Upon death, they will drop some gold and nitra, as well as a loot crate. The loot crate can contain gold, nitra, as well as upgrades and even rare artifacts.

Boss Enemies

Elite Enemies are encountered at the end of each stage as a boss encounter, sporting increased health, speed, and damage compared to the other bugs on the field. 4 elites also spawn inside eggs on the final stage of a dive, needing to be hatched before the Dreadnought can be summoned. All but one of the elite enemies are variations of pre-existing enemies.

  • Elite Slashers and Elite Praetorians can break terrain much more effectively than regular Praetorians.
  • Elite Spitters shoot five shots in a spread pattern. They are just as passive as their non-elite counterparts, repositioning themselves when the player gets too close.
  • Elite Mactera will actively pursue the player, unlike their fodder brethren who idly fly about. This can make them dangerous while the player is digging through terrain, as most of the attacks will be blocked by the rocks and stones before they can hit the mactera.
  • Elite Q'ronar Shellbacks are unique in several different ways. They function similarly to the Q'ronar Younglings, but when near the player will stop to fire a beam of acid at you, dealing considerable damage. They can only spawn on Hazard 2 and above, and only in the Crystalline Caverns, Magma Core, and Salt Pits.

The Dreadnought spawns at the last stage of the dive inside a cocoon, and acts as the final boss for that dive. There are two different Dreadnought enemies that can be encountered, both of which are keen on dismembering whoever had the gall to disturb their slumber.

  • The Regular Dreadnought towers over all the other enemies in the game, and is the single most dangerous of them all. Its main attack is a long distance leap which deals massive damage. While it is telegraphed, making sure you have some amount of movement speed is ideal to make sure you don't die to it. The two other attacks it has is where it smashes the ground, creating a funnel of rock pillars which will confine you to a small area until you dig out, as well as an attack where the Dreadnought fires swarm eggs at the player, which can hatch into grunts, slashers, and praetorians.
  • The Dreadnought Twins are a dual boss encounter, featuring the purple, melee-focused Lacerator; and the orange, range-focused Arbalest. The Lacerator deals melee damage upon running into the player, but also shares the leaping attack that the Regular Dreadnought has. The Arbalest keeps its distance from the player, shooting a spread of fireballs in your direction. Each twin has its own health bar, and when the difference in health becomes too large, they will heal each other so that their health bars are equal. Thus, the main challenge in the Twins fight is making sure you damage each of them to a similar extent to minimize the amount of times they heal.
