“The program is inspired by the origins and DNA of the Fellowship program at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University...The BKC fellowship has been one of the single most important transformative experiences in my professional life.” Urs Gasser, Dean and Professor of Public Policy, Governance and Innovative Technology at Technical University of Munich “The Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence has been promoting interdisciplinary research in AI ethics from day one, funding projects with more than 5 million euros. Seeing 3 out of 9 fellows awarded from our institute is not only a great honor but also proof of the excellent work being done by our researchers and team. Congratulations to the IEAI researchers and all the fellows. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of these interdisciplinary research projects focused on developing responsible and human-centered technology tools that serve the public good.” Christoph Lütge, Director, IEAI “We have managed to attract an interdisciplinary group of fellows from social sciences and computer science, embracing diversity of ideas and perspectives.” Markus B. Siewert, Managing Director, TUM Think Tank A few days ago, at a nice ceremony organized by the TUM Think Tank, three IEAI-affiliated researchers were awarded the Friedrich-Schiedel Fellowships. Attendees had the chance to hear the fellows present their innovative and multidisciplinary projects. Among the recipients was the #IEAI researcher Franziska Poszler, who introduced the MoralPLai project. ➡️Find out more about our project here: https://lnkd.in/eEiGwrty ➡️Meet the Friedrich Schiedel Fellows: https://lnkd.in/dN-jmira Hochschule für Politik München TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology Anastasia Aritzi #ai #artificialintelligence #aiethics #responsbileai #MoralPLai #FriedrichSchiedelFellowships #ResearchBasedTheater #Arts #Theater #InterdisciplinaryResearch #IEAI #TUMThinkTank #TUM
In June, I participated in the kick-off event of the Friedrich Schiedel Fellowship for Technology in Society. Thank you very much for selecting me as one of the fellowship recipients, TUM Think Tank, TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology! During the fellowship, I will be working on something very close to my heart: Creating a research-based theater focused on AI ethics and thereby exploring alternative, more engaging ways of science communication. Stay tuned & read more about the MoralPLai project, all our wonderful cooperation partners here: https://lnkd.in/dZ3DzPnK #HumanCenteredDesign #AiEthics #ResearchBasedTheater #ScienceCommunication #SchiedelFellowship #Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM

Declarations such as the Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law by the Council of Europe and the EU AI Act underscore the importance of this issue. However, experts from various fields are still grappling with defining the human rights implications of AI amidst a range of alternative concepts. During a one-day intensive workshop-based event bringing together global stakeholders, we, the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM in partnership with Globethics, aim to address the complex challenges posed by AI in relation to the protection and promotion of human rights by outlining actionable steps to prevent and mitigate human rights violations in AI development. Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM hat dies direkt geteilt
Today, we welcomed our incoming #01 cohort of #TUM Friedrich Schiedel Fellows for Technology in Society 🎉🙌 To learn more about the fellows and their projects, see 👉 https://lnkd.in/dnVWtbzj Why I am so excited? 1️⃣ We have managed to attract an interdisciplinary group of fellows from social sciences and computer science, embracing diversity of ideas and perspectives. 2️⃣ All projects focus on co-ideation and co-design, on collaboration with relevant stakeholders and being inclusive. 3️⃣ There is an amazing potential for creating synergies - within the community of fellows, with ongoing work in our labs at the TUM Think Tank, and across the different schools at TUM. 4️⃣ Building something is at the heart of each and every project: whether it’s prototypes, software and tools, whether it’s frameworks, curricula or playbooks, or whether it’s hubs, institutions and communities - or even a theater play 🤯 5️⃣ Fellowship programs are about building human connections and relationships which will stay with us our entire life (thank you Urs for reminding me of that ☺️) If you want to engage with our fellows and look for opportunities to connect & collaborate - irrespective if you are from academia, civil society, the public or the private sector - reach out to them directly or connect with us the TUM Think Tank. Huge thanks to our wonderful colleagues and fellows: Chiara U. Efe Bozkir Dr.-Ing. Mennatullah Hendawy Malte Toetzke Barış C. C. 🌈 Meet our first cohort of Friedrich Schiedel Fellows: Designed to echo Friedrich Schiedel's commitment as a visionary entrepreneur who left an indelible mark on corporate social responsibility, the Friedrich Schiedel Fellowship for Technology in Society aims to fortify translational and actionable research in the ethical, social, political, economic, and legal realms of science and technology. Beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, we have been looking for researchers from diverse backgrounds who are dedicated to address societal challenges by developing approaches to advance the public good. Together with our group of fellows, we want to explore how we can employ emerging technologies for the benefit of society, and ensure that emerging technologies are developed responsibly, human-centered, and democratically. With their translational research at the intersection of technology and society, our Friedrich Schiedel Fellows will be agents of interdisciplinary collaboration, building new and bolstering existing bridges between social sciences and natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, economics, health sciences, and medicine at TUM. 🎉 Congratulations to all of our new fellows! We are delighted to have you and excited for the road ahead! ➡️Three IEAI Affiliated Researchers Awarded Friedrich-Schiedel-Fellowships by the TUM Think Tank The IEAI is happy 😊 to annouce three affiliated researchers were selected to recieve the Friedrich-Schiedel-Fellowship! Using a creative approach to conducting, educating, and communicating AI ethics research through the lens of the arts (i.e., research-based theater), Franziska Poszler will look at the impact of AI systems on human ethical decision-making. Auxane Boch’s research will address the need for frameworks to systematically assess interactional systems’ diverse psychological impacts and develop a multi-cultural mapping framework for evaluating the psychological impact of interactional systems. As part of the IEAI’s AI for Extractive Industries project, Dr.-Ing. Mennatullah Hendawy will look at how generative AI can support in resolving multi-stakeholder conflicts in sustainable critical metals and minerals development. 🔗 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/dHijE8hA Christoph Lütge Caitlin Corrigan Franziska Poszler Auxane Boch Anastasia Aritzi TUM Think Tank Dr.-Ing.
