Meet The Future Society: Our colleague Toni Lorente is a Senior Associate focused on European AI governance. Toni was motivated to join us nearly two years ago in order to collaborate with a talented team on addressing some of the most important problems of our time—and we are fortunate to have him! The recent WCCI 2024 Open Forum on AI Governance in Yokohama, Japan, brought together researchers, policymakers, and leaders from around the world, underscoring the value of international cooperation in #AIgovernance. We were honored to have a colleague in attendance, hearing from experts such as Yoichi Iida from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Koichi Takahashi of RIKEN and the AI Alignment Network. The event also featured a keynote address by Akiko Murakami of the newly established Japan AI Safety Institute, which aims to facilitate collaboration and promote AI innovation while mitigating risks.

Hot off the press: The EU AI Act was published today. You can read the full text in the EU’s official journal ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/euGfjvqx As the first horizontal law on artificial intelligence and general-purpose AI models, the EU AI Act addresses the protection of health and safety as well as fundamental rights through a solid enforcement framework. This is a momentous step towards better governance of AI that serves the public interest.
