"I said step away. I won't say it again."
—Rick Flag to Catwoman at Blackgate Prison[src]

Colonel Richard "Rick" Flag, Jr. is a Federal Agent, who worked for the Department of Justice.

Incident Reports[]

Arkham Origins Blackgate Incident[]

Flag and Amanda Waller staged a riot at Blackgate Prison, to cover up their true motive of releasing Bane from his cell. They hired Catwoman to do the job. When Batman appeared at the riots, their plans were thought to be ruined. However, they found two more eligible members for their Suicide Squad.

When Catwoman managed to release Bane from his cell, Batman stopped her, but Bane was still on the loose, though weakened. Flag and his men captured Bane and sent him back to Blackgate in an effort to hide their involvement in the riot. He then confronted Batman and Catwoman at the docks, thanked Batman for his assistance, and released Catwoman with an expunged record.

Flag was last seen on a chopper with Waller, Bronze Tiger, and Deadshot, leaving Blackgate.

Kill the Justice League Incident[]

Many years later by the time of Kill the Justice League, Rick Flag has been promoted to Colonel and is deployed to Metropolis alongside the rest of A.R.G.U.S. as a last resort for the Brainiac invasion of Metropolis. Rick Flag meets the Suicide Squad for the first time by taking the Penguin to the Hall of Justice. Flag comforts Ivy and takes her back to the Hall Of Justice after the Squad encounters the new version of Ivy but Flag mainly stays in the Hall of Justice giving the Squad orders and as well sometimes directing ARGUS agents to gather field tests or supplies in areas of Metropolis.

Codex[]

From the Files of Lex Luthor[]

Rick Flag is a true-blue soldier and a golden retriever. Any attempt to get an original thought out of his carefully trained little brain is a fool's errand but give him sufficient instruction and send him on his way and there are few tasks he cannot accomplish. He is eager to serve, happy to obey, and the product of indoctrination so complete it could only come from the government. I wonder sometimes if he understands the machine in which he is a cog, but I suspect he wouldn't survive any real analytic thought.

Under Waller, Flag is given purpose, and he serves her well, taking on missions that require his utterly un-unique combination of military competence and all-American "stick-to-it-iveness". He may not be the sharpest tool in the proverbial shed, but in Waller's hands, he can cut through anything.

Quotes[]

Arkham Origins Blackgate[]

  • "I don't like it. Deadshot's an unstable personality." (Amanda Waller)

  • "I said step away. I won't say it again." (Catwoman)
  • "Captain Rick Flag, Batman." (Throws ID Card to Batman)
  • "Believe it or not, Batman, there are federal operations you know nothing about. Because it's better that way. We're securing the facility. Thank you for your assistance."
  • "We'll return her to custody." (To Batman about Catwoman)
  • "And we grabbed him before he even made it to the docks. You saved a lot of lives tonight, Batman. You should be proud." (To Batman about Bane)
  • "Released per your orders, Director. With an expunged record and the secret thanks of a grateful nation. Though I don't know why we don't keep a leash on her. She didn't accomplish her primary mission. We had to give Bane back to save face." (To Amanda Waller about Catwoman)

Trivia[]

  • He appeared to be more apprehensive of the Suicide Squad than Amanda Waller. He distrusted the prisoners she recruited and saw them as "degenerates."
  • Despite his personality and his open disdain and sarcasm towards the Suicide Squad because of their roles as villains, Rick Flag is shown being noticeably kinder to children like the reincarnated Ivy and teenagers like Toyman, two characters who are usually depicted as villains in other media, showing Flag does have some positive elements to his character.
    • This kindness even extends to King Shark; as revealed in the "Squad Conversation: Classified Sources" audio logs, Flag has known King Shark since he was a young child and had been tremendously kind to him, on one occasion Flag had given King Shark his favourite flavor of ice cream and toppings to eat for the whole evening, while on another occasion he forced the Belle Reve transport van containing King Shark to make an "emergency stop" at a funfair. However, in his adulthood King Shark believes that the ice cream incident was meant to be a form of torture (while also believing Flag had unwittingly given him his favourite flavor and toppings), and isn't aware that Flag had actually been kind to him this entire time, also showing King Shark is the only member of the Suicide Squad that Flag doesn't detest.
  • Flag's voice actor, Adam Baldwin, previously played the role of Rick Flag Jr. in the Justice League Unlimited episode, "Task Force X".
    • There's also an irony to Baldwin voicing a character whose team are tasked with killing members of the Justice League such as John Stewart, as Baldwin also voiced Hal Jordon, the Green Lantern predating John Stewart's in the comics, in the same series which featured Stewart again as a founding member of the Justice League.
  • In Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Flag's rank was Captain. By the events of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League it has been changed to Colonel, suggesting that he had been promoted at some point.
  • The Arkhamverse version of Rick Flag appears to be in his early 40s.
  • Flag is close to Amanda Waller, being one of the few known people that Waller trusts.
  • He is implied to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as evident by a conversation he has with Ivy in an audio log, in that he seems deeply haunted by the deaths of his old squadmates.
