Amps
Exploring Amps in Sunset Overdrive
Amps are special abilities you can equip to customize your character. Amps can effect everything from weapons to traversal, with tons of options in between.
Amps can be first gained by doing the Amptastic mission, and more Amps can either be gained by doing more story missions, or buying Amps from Floyd in exchange for collectibles. These collectibles can be found all over Sunset City, and you can even buy maps that pinpoint them on your map in exchange for Overcharge, or you can head to our Interactive Map of Sunset City. The types of Collectibles you need are Fizzie Balloons, Cameras, Shoes, Toilet Paper, and Overcharge Signs. Note that you don't need every type to get specific Amps, but you'll need to collect them all if you want every Amp there is.
Reccomended Amps
Different Amps can suit a variety of play-styles, but some Amps are great to have regardless. Here are some of our top picks:
- Melee Amp: Roid Rage - This Amp explodes enemies you kill with melee, and then knocks back other enemies as well. When you couple it with a Dive Bomb, you'll have enemies flying everywhere, especially when you use...
- Dive Bomb Amp: Seismic Slash - This amp sends a directional shockwave down and deals enemies, and is especially useful if your just out of reach of a few stragglers who havent yet swarmed you.
- Hero Amps: Personal Space and Air Power - The first amp keeps enemies away from you, which is incredibly useful for that stray OD that's waiting on a grind rail to trip you up. The second Amp increases your damage while in the air, and with a game like this - when aren't you flying around?
- Epic Amp: Chance of Lightning - This amp calls down lighnting from the sky to strike those around you. Not only does it add general chaos to the battle, but you don't have to worry about targeting people with this amp, just keep doing what you do and the lightning will take care of everyone else!
- Weapon Amps: Twist of Fate, Bear Force One, Rocket Man, Recycler - weapons that cause explosions are generally pretty great, so why not make every weapon cause them? Putting Twist of Fate on an automatic weapon like The Roman Candle can set you up for rapid nuclear explosions, while putting Bear Force One on a Freeze Bomb can stop and explode whole groups of enemies. Additionally, putting Recycler on a weapon with low ammo can help you stay in the game longer before switching weapons.
Amps are broken up into different types, which you can learn more about by following the links below:

These Amps can be combined with any of your Weapons that are level 2 or above, and effect the ammo used. This can include elemental damage, crazy effects, or just turn exploding enemies into glitter or cash! Weapon Amps take effect after reaching Style level 2 on the Style Meter
