Things to Do First in Sand Land
You'll be thrown into the action as soon as you start Sand Land, and it's not long before you're departing the Demon Village for Beelzebub's first adventure. Before you power through the main story missions, however, there are some things you'll want to do first. So, here's our guide on how to spend your first few hours in the game.
Explore the Demon Village
Once you’ve completed the Prologue, you’ll begin the story quest Hitting the Road. This is where you’ll get a chance to explore the Demon Village. Have a thorough look around and you’ll find red breakable barrels, as well as Treasure Chests that not only count towards your overall region completion but will also reward you with handy loot.
None of them will be inaccessible to you, so scale the walls and double-jump to reach them all before setting off! It's better to gain some valuable items before you start your journey.
Loot in Preparation for a Vehicle Upgrade
On the subject of loot, when you're going in the Head to the Legendary Spring mission, be sure to stop at some of the points of interest along the way to find even more Treasure Chests and loot. There’s a Grotto you’ll encounter shortly after going south from Demon Village, with Raptors and Ore Veins nearby. Just before the chase sequence, you can find an abandoned camp with more chests guarded by Scorpions. It’s worth fighting and looting everything here to get a good head start with materials.
By the time you get to Spino, you’ll be able to upgrade your vehicle. If you’ve been looting, you should be able to get it upgraded by quite a few levels, which will make all the difference on your further journey.
Earn A Few Trophies
If you’re looking to unlock all the Achievements and Trophies, you can pop a few very early on in the game. When you reach the Arlo Village Ruins as part of the Get food and water in town. quest, you can get two just from a little bit of exploration. Head north from the vehicle to open the chest, which will get you the Treasure Hunter trophy, and go southeast to the tree to find a Rubber Duck. Picking up the Tattered Old Toy will get you the Finders Not Keepers trophy.
Push Through to Spino
We recommend waiting to explore Sand Land thoroughly until you've completed Need a Lift, Ann?. This quest will take you to Spino, and you'll have acquired a Tank at this point and made some repairs on it. Spino is your main base in the game, and you'll be able to expand it by completing side quests. This is also where fast travel will open up again, so you'll be able to return to the Hotkae Region where you started and search it thoroughly.
Get a Jump Bot
Stick with the main quests shortly after reaching Spino, and you'll soon be tasked with finding a Jump Bot after the Tank is repaired. Once you've got the Jump Bot, you'll find general exploration becomes a lot easier. With the Tank, you'll be able to blast through blocked passages, and with the Jump Bot, you'll be able to reach more Treasure Chests on top of rocks. You'll also be able to start entering some of the Ruins and higher points of interest, which is what we'd recommend doing next.
Check Out the Ruins
When you've got the Jump Bot, fast travel back to previously visited regions and start delving into the ruins. It will be far easier to explore them with your new vehicle, but the reason you'll really want to see the ruins is to open the Ancient Chests inside. Each one will have an Ancient Coin - either Copper, Silver, or Gold. You can then use the Ancient Gold Coins to purchase maps from Lassi. Lassi can be found at each village base, and the treasure maps sold will show you even single Treasure Chest for the region.
Repair the Radio Towers
Radio Towers are the best way to reveal everything the map has to offer in both Sand Land and Forest Land. You can visit our Radio Tower Locations page to see them all, but it's worth getting a few repaired early on. Unfogging the map will give you a better idea of where the paths are that you can access, and stop you having to backtrack.
