How to Beat Elana Squalid Queen
Elana Squalid Queen is a Boss in the Dark Souls 2 Crown of the Sunken King DLC. Elana’s lair is found near the entrance of Dragons Rest.
Elana pummels her foes with explosive attacks and dark energy while her summoned minions distract her enemies.
How to Beat Elana, Squalid Queen
Elana is a sorceress and summoner. She has several modes of attack:
- A sweeping swing of her stave at close range
- An area affect close range magical explosion
- A long-range explosion attack. Elana points, and one or two areas of the room combust in explosive energy. Avoiding these attacks requires immediately leaping away when the air at the center of an imminent explosion begins to shimmer.
- A stream of three hexes
- A spread of several hexes
- A summoning spell bringing three golden skeletons into battle alongside her. The skeletons are weak and easily dispatched.
- A summoning spell bringing Velstadt, the Royal Aegis into battle alongside her. If you keep one of the skeletons alive, she will not summon Velstadt. He likely has less hitpoints than his standard boss fight, but this is unconfirmed at the time. When he is summoned, this fight can be extremely difficult solo. Be ready for him, or keep one of the skeletons alive and get used to dodging its attacks while focusing on Elana.
- Elana can also teleport
Players battling Elana must be especially careful to avoid her explosive blasts while battling her summoned guards.
Beating Elana is most easily accomplished through team tactics, as her summoned minions require split attention. The summoned NPC shade outside the door is a great help. Willing player characters are even better.
Elana is vulnerable to several quick ranged attacks in the opening seconds of the fight, and also to melee if you're fast enough to bum-rush her. Lightning increases damage to Elana, who is very resistant to Fire and Dark, and this comes in handy against Velstadt when he is summoned to the fight.
Most of her attacks can be dodged, though it's best to back away when she raises her hands over her head for the close-range area effect. If attacking from a distance, be on the lookout for the beginnings of an explosive orb spell. Don't over-commit to attacks and render yourself vulnerable
