After playing this game for 3 years I wouldn't recommend playing it.
I start with the story. The story itself is interesting, but will miss out portions of the story or the lore because most of them are only playable in the current update. If a next update comes up, you either have to hurry and finish the story or you will miss out the content. The devs punishes player for not playing and for a newcomer it is not worth it.
The other issue is the wishing system. There is a standard banner, a weapon banner and a limited banner, which features limited characters. Each of them are 5 stars. The problem with the wishing system is that the character or weapon isn't even guaranteed. You have to atleast make 80-90 wishes for a 5 star weapon or character and if you are unlucky, you get a charcter or weapon from the standard banner. If you fail once on the limited banner, you have to make an additonal 80-90 wishes to get your guaranteed character. On the weapon banner you have to fail twice to guarantee your weapon. The limited banner last for a month and either you grind for the wishes or they encourage you to spent money on them.
The gameplay is nice, but only, if you have the characters, weapons and good artifacts. If one of them (especially artefacts) is missing, the experience isn't as good as it should be. The artifacts have random stats and even if you have some good ones, you have to level up the stats too and it is NOT guaranteed which stat will level up. It is just frustrating to see how often it messes up your artifact and the game itself runs with an energy mechanic, which prevents you from playing, unless you pay for it.
Then there is the issue with the devs themselves. They earn millions of dollars and they give less in return. A good example is the third anniversary, where they only gave 3 wishes for our "loyal support". A real slap on the face for all players. If you are reading this please stop playing this game. Just play other games where the devs listen.
Please free yourself from gacha games, they are not worth the value. The game is good, but I do not recommend it because players are heavily influenced to spend money on it

This game is fun but their gacha is unforgiving :(

I started playing Genshin Impact when it came out. It was fun to play along with the new content as it came out. However, I found it daunting when I logged out for a while and returned. It felt as if I had missed too much to come back. Too many new mechanics (which are not always explained well), new areas, and events were taking place way past where I was in the story. I wanted to continue the story, but I didn't want to miss the events. This is the nature of a game that is forever evolving- so I can't be too upset about it. As for the gacha system, many people complain about this, but I have all the characters I could ever need just from grinding. I like grinding. If you don't then maybe this game is not for you. I don't have as much time to play as I used to, and playing for an hour or two every other day feels like it's just not enough. This game got me through a portion of the pandemic after I played animal crossing to death. I recommend this game if you have a lot of time to invest in it. Otherwise, it may be hard to get the full enjoyment out of it.
The lore is an absolute masterpiece with its breathtaking soundtrack and cool characters. The game itself is really good and greatly variegated: exploration, puzzles, combat, side quests, farming and upgrade of characters, artifacts and weapons.
However, what I experienced was the indirect obligation of playing everyday in order to keep up to the massive world exploration, quests and game updates. As I was working and studying at the time, I didn't have much time and at some point I had too much to catch up on that it made me feel overwhelmed. But who knows, maybe one day i'll download it again.

I love this game. This is a world that I can come back to time and time again when I just want to relax, pick some flowers, & solve some puzzles accompanied by my comfort characters. // After starting Genshin for the first time during the first summer islands event in 2021, I have had a considerable amount of time with this game. The music is phenomenal, and the story is simple (approachable) at the surface but with deeper world lore for people who want to learn more. The sheer scale and quality of the game is also impressive for a free game.

I don't consider my self a MMORPG player at all i simply lack the patience, yet genshin made an exception.
I even didn't know the game genre when i first download it, at first the fighting mechanisms and graphic didn't catch my eye and i only kept playing to get my hands on aloy character but as i went through the main story i realized the game has a surprisingly great story, I can't even point at the reasons you just cope with characters and their logics.
at its simplicity you can find countless deep and well-thought details which is surprising considering games first impression.
the game-play by it self is brilliant even as a player who avoids MMORPGs you would easily learn to enjoy it over time.
and there is no need to discuss the amount of the play-time, today the main story alone has a 60 hour game-play and more than 500 hour to full completion which basicly means that you can die on this game.
an other surprisingly noticeable feature of the game is how they could keep adding content to the game and keep it relevant to the already existing content even keep it deep and logical too.
in a more simple words genshin impact is one of the most under-rated games of this generation i can stress this enough i don't like RPGs, genshin is one of two MMORPGs that i really enjoy playing and simply can't get enough of.
only two flaws i can find in this game
one is that it was built in unity which i can see why, according to make a anime themed game they go with a well proved engine in 2D game development which can handle 3D games as well but it simply was wrong, unreal would have been far more suitable for a game of this mass and it could create better graphic, lighting, detail and keep the anime art style.
two, game has a ranking mechanism (adventure rank) and each mission (quest) has its own minimum adventure rank to start i simply see it as a way to extend play-time which with the amount of content in genshin is obsoletely unnecessary, its just annoying.
