Just lost all my open/hidden tabs and there are many. Not happy. I assume that FF has had an update or crashed.

There needs to be a robust and transperent solution for this. One whoch allows users to do the following:

1. set session back up frequency and number of sessions to cycle 2. restores from a selectable list of back up sessions 3. remembers whch tabs are allocated to which tab group

The ability to have tab groups, means that users can easily have hundreds of tabs "hidden/open" at any point in time.

Finally, if all fails, some instructions on how to access stored session data from a C-drive (windows) backuup would help.

I've put up with this issue for about a year now. Every time FF updates, the "restart" fails. It reopens the browser, and if you had multiple tabs open all of them are also opened - all at the same time.

I've tried to go through the process with just 1 tab and it fails. I wait 2 or 3 minutes for the page to resolve and it never does. So I have to close FF manually and reopen FF before it will function normally again. It's not a huge issue, but it's very important when I'm in the midst of working with several tabs open in the middle of the day. I've learned to "not" close and allow FF to update when I'm working with a lot of tabs. I wait until the end of the day to close FF because it can be a 10 minute disruption to my work (which actually becomes 30 minutes by the time I can get back to what I was doing after opening all the tabs I needed open).

With every update I think, "this time" the FF restart will be fixed....but it's not. I just went through it this morning when I opened FF. I know it downloaded and updated yesterday at the end of my day, which means I shut down FF and my other windows, but I always leave my computer running 24/7, and then turn off my monitors.

When I opened FF today, it attempted to load the 1 tab I had open last night, and after several minutes I simply closed FF and started again. It's that "second" restart that gets everything functioning in FF.

Certainly others have complained about this. I can't be the only person with this issue. Is this just something that's not easy to figure out "why" it won't connect to the Net on restart? That's the issue, actually. FF loses the connection to the Net during the update process and when the restart happens FF can't connect to the Net. Only a manual restart fixes the issue.

For the last few weeks, I have had the following issue on macOS Monterey (version 12.7.5) on Apple M1:

When I choose the “Restart now” option in the “Update ready to install” dialog, Firefox closes and I type the password at the admin prompt, but then nothing else happens. The Mozilla Updater process won’t appear in the Activity Monitor, and if I click on the Firefox icon in the Dock, another admin prompt appears, then the updater actually does its thing but at the same time the old version of Firefox tries to launch during the updating process. Sometimes, the updated version of Firefox appears while the old version is also on the screen. It is a really janky process and I always fear that something gets severely broken.

This never happened on macOS Big Sur, the previous major version of macOS.

You are still on the beta update channel as you can see in the "Help -> About Firefox" screenshots.
That's why I'm here. How do I get off the beta channel?

cor-el said

You can possibly check about:support for the path of the Firefox binary and profile folder..
Update Channel: beta. The binary path is to my Firefox stable install, E:\My Documents\A_FIREFOX BROWSER\FIREFOX\firefox.exe. How can that be? Why am I'm listed on the beta channel when the system is pointing to using a stable install, listed as 128.03? about:support

Above you mention portable, are you using a portable Firefox version? To update, it's just a matter of extracting the executable and replacing the contents of the portable folder.
Can we define portable? Does this only include only "official" version releases. Would we not be having this problem with an official release.

What differentiates the "portable"method, that I've been using as my method for years without an incident, up until recent recent Firefox releases? The only thing I do when there's an update is replace the contents of the install folder, the same folder that the profile manager is pointing to, with the contents of the extracted executable,

I just realized the existence of this folder in about:support "Update Folder: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a864-e594e8d1fb38\updates\C47CD37E750B0BD0. I tried to delete it. It recreated itself, changed my settins to "Update Autoimatically" and wiped out my entire session.

The contents of it's update-config.json file are the following. Would changing these values to "false" do any good? Or perhaps altering the contents of updates.xml in the same folder

"{"__DEFAULTS__":{"app.update.auto":true,"app.update.background.enabled":true},"app.update.auto":false}"

I do have a "Profile" folder at C:\Users\mr\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. The two entries are from 2019. One is empty, ans these are the contents of the other
