Chef notes

I love this recipe because pulled pork feeds a crowd! This presentation is a great way to offer your guests some flavorful char-grilled additions for their sandwiches. Guests can take the ingredients they love and build an even better barbecue sandwich.

Technique tips: If you want a Kansas City flavor profile, look for a rub that has salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and celery seed. Buy a bone-in pork butt. When the bone easily lifts out of the meat, it is perfect! Pour the drippings through a fat separator and discard the grease. Add the remaining liquid back into serving dish.

Equipment needed: Smoker or slow cooker.
