![Sega Neptune Gets Its First Exclusive, Sword Of The Apocalypse 1](https://cdn.statically.io/img/images.timeextension.com/689005224c012/sega-neptune-gets-its-first-exclusive-sword-of-the-apocalypse-1.900x.jpg)
We recently reported on the news that Sega's unreleased Neptune console – a Mega Drive and 32X combined – is getting an unofficial resurrection in FPGA form thanks to a Brazilian company called GamesCare.
The GF1 Neptune will also get its own exclusive games, the first of which has been officially shown off.
Sword Of The Apocalypse is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer which reminds us a little of Sega's Shinobi series. While the footage has been tagged with 'Sega Genesis', the trailer says that this particular game will be "exclusive" to the GF1 Neptune.
We've since had confirmation from the developer that the game will run on standard Mega Drive hardware too, but when running via a 32X (or on the GF1 Neptune) it will be "better".
Regardless of that point, it's interesting that the GF1 Neptune technically has its first exclusive release.
In other news, it seems that the GF1 Neptune is getting a Sega Master System FPGA core:

This is the kind of game, SEGA should have made for the 32x hardware.
And as someone who LOVES the Shinobi series, this looks promising.
If only we got more 2-D games for the 32X. Even just the addition the colors and sprite-scaling of the 32X with the speed of the Genesis processor would have yielded some really cool games?
Apparently the player sprite is ripped from a DS game, which sets a bad precedent https://twitter.com/bonzaixx1/status/1810446772541493747
The 32X should of had more 2D games, utilising all its strengths. Or more imagine Outrun on 32x that would of been perfect. This looks great just hope the price of this system is affordable & available.
@Axelay71 Maybe the 32x would have had a better library but back in 94 that would have been a bad idea. The market was geared up towards 3d, 2d was seen as old fashioned and for Sega to release an upgrade for their console and then release 2d games would have made the 32x even more laughable than it already was. Also, there's nothing on this new game which doesn't look like it couldn't be done on the Megadrive.
@mashk if that's the case then Sega missed the boat then. The Saturn is a 2D monster. I know I own one, the 32X could of been so much more. Everything doesn't have to be 3D.
To be honest I think this could have been released on Mega Drive. There's nothing special about it to make it a 32X game.

Read the article again. It's coming for both Mega Drive and the 32X. The 32x version has enhancements.

@Steel76 Thanks for clarifying. Will be interested to see what enhancements the 32X version has.

Except for more colors on screen, maybe we'll get some cool scaling/rotation effects?
Hope they upload a comparison video 😃
@Steel76 I would definitely hope for something that uses the 32X hardware for sure.
