“I used to wanna be just like my momma ‘cause my momma was a rapper. But my momma favorite female rapper was Lil’ Kim so she put me on Biggie before she put me on Lil’ Kim,” Meg said. “I used to love Biggie so much, I still love Biggie. She was like, ‘If you love Biggie, I got something for you that’s gon’ f**k you up. Then she start playing me Kim and I was like ‘What is this?’ So, I definitely was on Kim early but my momma was my favorite female rapper.”

She later added, “Of course I’ve met Kim. You would think how much s**t Kim be talking with that deep a** voice on them f**king beats, you would think she finna be tall as a motherf**ker and the voice finna be deep like that. I met Lil’ Kim and she was like ‘Hey, wassup.’ I was like ‘KIM, Kim, Kimberly, where is the real Lil’ Kim? ‘Cause this ain’t Kim.’ But she is so nice and she’s so sweet. She gives just like baby girl energy. Like she’s just so cute and petite and nice, and I was like, ‘I can not believe you are this sweet.’ I love her.

Meg’s revelation is sweet for several reasons. One, Megan’s mother, Holly Thomas, died in March 2019 from a brain tumor, so it’s nice to her open up and talk about her in public settings.

Second, Lil’ Kim’s legacy as an artist has started to become a little underrated due to the number of women in hip-hop who have become huge stars. It’s nice to see Megan, who’s the hottest female rapper out now, give props to one of the ladies who laid the groundwork for her and many other artists.
