Portrait of Whet Moser

Whet Moser

As a news briefings editor, my focus runs the entire breadth of the newspaper, and my job is to give subscribers a bit of everything.

I’ve previously been a writer and digital editor at the Chicago Reader, Chicago magazine and Quartz, where I was an editor and writer on the Obsession newsletter, a deep dive into a subject of interest. I was also a regular contributor to the Covid Tracking Project, an organization launched from The Atlantic. I wrote a book about Chicago for the Reaktion imprint: “Chicago: From Vision to Metropolis.”

My grandfather, a pressman for the Lynchburg News & Advance, helped teach me to read with the newspaper he printed, starting my interest in journalism early. I grew up down Route 460 from Lynchburg, outside of Roanoke, Va., and attended Deep Springs College and the University of Chicago, where I studied English and did layout for the campus paper Chicago Maroon.

I’m committed to the ethical standards upheld by the Times, and seek to reflect the breadth and depth of its coverage in the newsletters I work on.
