Americans May Not Agree on Much, but They Agree Biden Made the Right Choice
The president’s decision to exit the race received overwhelming support. Only a few other things have drawn as much consensus in polling.

I cover a little bit of everything that involves data, across health care, politics, climate, education, demographics, sports and other domains.
I’ve calculated the odds that both James Comey and Andrew McCabe would be chosen for a rare type of audit, and written about what it’s like to be a queer teen today. I compared every line of President Biden’s budget with the major policy bills passed by Congress to show how much of the White House’s climate and infrastructure agenda it managed to accomplish. And I once tracked down the Tom Bradys of other jobs.
I studied statistics and Arabic at Williams College, and worked as a producer and editor in public radio at NPR in Washington, D.C., and WBUR in Boston. Before joining The Times, I was a local reporter for The Berkshire Eagle in western Massachusetts. I first came to The Upshot as a fellow in the class of 2022-23.
I follow the standards spelled out in The Times’s Ethical Journalism Handbook. I try to maintain a reasonable skepticism of the data I use, and I remain cautious about drawing conclusions. I try to convey the uncertainty inherent in, and the limitations of, every data set that I show to readers.
