Actions speak louder than words and great timing is everything. When a chatbot says "Hi, how can I help you?" my first thought is: You can help by NOT saying "how can I help you." 😏 That sort of generic opening has never sat well with me. In the words of Louis Armstrong (when asked what jazz is): "If you have to ask, you'll never know." 🎺 I especially don't like this clichéd bot opening during times when my ACTIONS should make it obvious what I need. In fairness, this isn't always the case, but it's common enough that bots should sometimes help BEFORE they're asked. For example: if you're clicking on a dead link, typing in the wrong discount code, or abandoning your cart, your actions speak volumes. It's not only good manners to chime in with relevant, contextual help at the first sign of a problem. It also leads to unforgettable brand experiences and bottom-line-boosting results for any company that depends on website conversions. Botcopy's Messenger has been doing this for years, in tandem with Google Cloud Dialogflow. (Through our window methods and event listeners.) We've sometimes called this superpower Botcopy's ability to "read the room." We first talked about it back in 2020, with posts, videos, and workshops. But just because a feature makes sense doesn't mean everyone will use it. Given the learning curve for AI, this Botcopy capability was often underutilized. Suddenly, that's now changing!
