I asked #ChatGPT to write a story that references Reddit, Inc. inside jokes that a seasoned redditor would know and create an illustration for it. I'm blown away; see below the results. How many references can you find in the image? On a more serious note, I'm impressed--and couldn't agree more--that ChatGPT got the essence of #Reddit: a sense of #belonging and #community, much of which is owed to Erik Martin.

"In the digital realm of Redditville, every day was a new chapter filled with memes and inside jokes. Our protagonist, Kevin, a seasoned redditor, found joy in the eccentricities of this online world. His partner in crime was his cat, Snoo, known for its gravity-defying leaps and a strange obsession with cucumbers.
One day, Kevin stumbled upon a post in r/all, titled “The Quest for the Bacon Narwhal Ice Cream.” Intrigued by the challenge and the promise of eternal Reddit Gold, Kevin embarked on a quest that would take him through the heart of Reddit’s most iconic subreddits.
His first stop was r/AskReddit, where he posted, “Where can I find the Bacon Narwhal Ice Cream?” Amid thousands of replies, one cryptic message stood out: “Follow the path of the broken arms.” Chuckling at the reference, Kevin set out towards his next destination.
On his journey, Kevin encountered the infamous “Jumper Cable Guy,” who, in the midst of offering directions, somehow ended up narrating a story of being beaten with jumper cables. The absurdity of the encounter left Kevin both amused and slightly bewildered.
Next, he found himself in r/conspiracy, where theories about “Jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” were as rampant as discussions about “The narwhal bacons at midnight.” Here, Kevin discovered a map marked with a curious location: “The Safe.”
Recalling the legend of “The Safe” that turned out to be Reddit's biggest anticlimax, Kevin ventured towards the location, only to find a note: “Seek your fortune at r/sequelmemes.” Sighing at the never-ending meme wars, he moved on.
Passing through r/trees, Kevin was greeted with a peculiarly relaxed vibe and numerous offers of pineapples, a symbol of the subreddit's community spirit. Politely declining, he continued his quest.
Reaching r/sequelmemes, he plunged into a debate about Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. Amidst the fervor, he found a hidden compartment with a note, “The real Golden Upvote was the friends you made along the way.”
Realizing the quest was a wild goose chase typical of Reddit humor, Kevin couldn’t help but smile. The journey, filled with classic Reddit gags and a sense of belonging, was more rewarding than any treasure.
As he logged off, contented and amused, Kevin thought, “Well, at least I didn’t run into Kevin.” And with that, he closed his laptop, the screen aglow with upvotes from a day well spent in the Redditverse."
