Linda Yaccarino was a whirlwind at #CannesLions this year. From villa interviews in the hills to celeb chats on the Croisette, yacht hangouts in the marina to pitching advertisers in X’s (formerly Twitter) plush Carlton suite — she, it seems, was everywhere. It was quite the contrast from last year when she was a no-show as X’s newly appointed CEO. Her bustling week on the Côte d’Azur perfectly summed up her tenure so far at X: busy, flashy, but ultimately predictable and elaborate. In this piece by Krystal Scanlon, we speak to Jasmine Enberg of EMARKETER, and Shamsul Chowdhury of Jellyfish.

Last week, Jamie Plankenhorn and Wes Sharpton of Hairstory sat down for 30 minutes to chat about hosting in a digital space. Here are some of our key takeaways from their conversation: 🛫 Loup allowed Wes to interact with hairdressers across the globe without racking up frequent flyer miles. Loup's interactive platform makes it easy for hosts to connect with audiences from all over the world, without having to travel. 💬 Wes uses Instagram to drive engagement for both co-hosts and audience leading up to a stream. He posts videos and uses tags to get people excited about the upcoming stream. 📛 Wes is intentionally inclusive by not using people's names. This helps to create a more welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of their background or experience level. ⏰ Wes adjusts the length of his streams based on the busy season of his audience. He knows that his audience is busy, so he wants to make sure that his streams are informative and engaging, but not too long. Wes makes sure that everyone is heard among a busy chat during a live stream. He does this by paying attention to the chat and calling out questions and comments from different people. Our favorite takeaway from our conversation was that under-preparing can create a better conversation. It's okay to not have everything scripted or planned out perfectly - Sometimes, the best conversations happen when we're just being ourselves and talking about what we're passionate about. 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: ☀ If you’re over 35, bring electrolyte powder. (I like LMNT.) ☀ If you haven’t packed yet and are leaving in 2 hours throw all your dresses, shorts, underwear and anything linen in a suitcase and call it a day. Anything you forget you can buy there. ☀ If you're a PR person, the week is not fun. Sorry. It’s 16-hour work days herding cats that all need to be in different places at the same time. They're having fun though! ☀ Post up at a hotel restaurant for lunch and just listen. The patio at the Marriott has deals happening and tea spilling. Same thing with the Carlton patio in the evening. ☀ If you see an empty dance floor and a DJ playing one of your favorite songs get up there with them and dance it out (pic attached). ☀ Beware of those rosé popsicles. Too many can pack a punch. ☀ If you break your foot, there is no ice in Cannes so bring shoes that tie tight and leave them on until you get home (Yes, this happened to me on the Friday of the 2018 Cannes Lions). ☀ If you have the first flight out of Nice on Saturday am just pull an all-nighter on Friday, party with the Lions winners and sleep on the flight home. It helps a ton with jet lag! ☀ Don’t post all of your beach/celebrity pics on LinkedIn (especially right now). You will trigger people and the FOMO likes aren’t worth it. Read the room. (If you win, post away!) Lastly, some amazing relationships are made in Cannes. Get to know new people. Ask them questions outside of work. Engage and be relatable. Have fun and travel safe. It’s a privilege to be in the south of France talking about advertising and creativity (especially, if it’s on someone else’s dime). Don’t take it for granted. #Goodadvice #CannesLions #tipsandtricks #creativeagency #marketing #advertising

As I've shared on LinkedIn, I recently started working at Houston First Corporation, the destination marketing organization for the City of Houston. If you would like to know more about Houston First, The Houston Chronicle recently published this article showcasing what Houston First does to promote region.
The Houston Chronicle created a nice explainer of our organization and what we do to promote the region.

This is what the Podium Package is all about! 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 What did the race organizers and staff do when multiple media outlets showed up during the critical moments before and during the race? Nothing...because Treat PR was there to handle it all for them!!! There was no need to stop those last-minute preparations or important conversations with volunteers, vendors, and emergency services. Road cones and barricades kept going up. Participants headed out onto the race course. We didn't bother our clients with anything but quick check-ins to see if they were all good. Yes, the podium package includes all the key items we know lead to a successful, full-size PR campaign for your endurance event. Press releases, pitches, media guides...the works! The most interesting deliverable and the one that will make race day a true breeze? In-person media management and support on race day. Collection of content onsite in the event a certain source can't attend, but still wants to cover it. Is it vital that we be there for you to get coverage on race day? No. Is it something that will make your life a whole lot easier as the race director? You better believe it. A huge congrats to our client on another successful race weekend! Big shoutout to Anna Gimre whose top-notch media relations work led to the excellent problem of multiple outlets showing up all at once. 🙌

A "Once in a Lifetime Grand Opening" Failure. A grand opening works if your able to create foot traffic. Some marketing channels you might use are door-to-door canvassing. Don't forget to leave a well-written persausive door hanger. Coupons and discounts will bring in floor traffic on that all-important grand opening day. Giveaways work, as does free-food. You must track all the data. And, finally be prepared to capture upto 98% of your clients cell phone numbers with your opt-in offer for them to join your VIP text club. Otherwise, you can't re-market to your visitors and you'll have to go through all those timely, expensive marketing steps over and over.

Our Marketing Manager Tom Bourlet: "Did you know that September 19th is International Talk Like A Pirate Day?" Our director, Stephanie Hague-Evans: "Sorry…what?" Tom: "I SAID, September 19th is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Didn’t you know that? Keep up, Steph. We should do ‘a thing’ based around that pirate treasure hunt that we sell...and rum. We should definitely mention rum." Steph: "Ok, I’ll do an experience provider spotlight post. And share a pic from when my team won the treasure hunt by getting the maximum possible amount of points in record time and then were really modest and never mentioned it ever again…" Want to see if YOUR #team can smash Steph's record? Why not book in a pirate-themed treasure hunt for your next #teambuilding event? It takes just a few clicks to choose, book and pay for your next great #experience via the Fizzbox #marketplace. And, if you’re based in #Brighton or #London, why not really get into pirate mode and pop to the The Rum Kitchen for a cheeky barrel or two afterwards, to celebrate your victory! #pirates #pirate #celebrate #teamsocial #teambonding #teamculture #events #eventsindustry #teamevents #connection #victory #eventsprofs #eventsprof #teambuilding #teambuildingactivities #teambuildingevent #teambuilding2023
