About us

U.S. Digital Response (USDR) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that helps governments and organizations respond quickly and efficiently to support the critical needs of the public. Leveraging a network of pro-bono technical expertise and modern, resilient technology, USDR addresses and uncovers solutions for common, systemic challenges that public servants are facing, leaving them better equipped to deliver services and support to millions of people nationwide. We operate with humility and deep respect for our partners and believe that modern and resilient technology applied in the public interest can deliver people-centered services at the speed of need. As of February 2021, USDR has partnered with more than 180 government and nonprofit partners on 250+ projects, impacting 13 million people across 36 states and territories, and we’ve built a dedicated community of 6,500+ volunteers driven to serve in a time of need. We provide free assistance to all government entities across the country. If you think we can help, let us know at info@usdigitalresponse.org – no problem is too big or too small.

This has been such an impactful relationship! Nevada's collaborative approach with USDR's Grant Finder enables the state to work with their entire ecosystem on coordinated grant-seeking. It's a game changer for states with similar mandates. 💪 🙌

🏜️ Nevada's OFA Pioneers Collaborative Approach to Federal Grants The Nevada Governor's Office of Federal Assistance (OFA) is transforming how the state secures federal grants. Under Kristen Stout's leadership, OFA has turned Nevada from a grant-funding underdog into a model of cross-sector collaboration. Kristen and her team recognized several key challenges: -A fragmented funding landscape -Agencies working in silos -Untapped potential for partnerships To address these issues, OFA partnered with U.S. Digital Response to implement the Federal Grant Finder tool. Saved searches, email notifications, and easy collaboration tools make the Federal Grant Finder a powerful ally in Nevada's grant-seeking arsenal. 🔍 Their strategic approach began with a small pilot involving infrastructure agencies. They then gathered user feedback, refined their process, and thoughtfully expanded to more stakeholders. Throughout the rollout, OFA supported adoption with "office hours" and working groups, ensuring users could maximize the tool's potential. 🔢 The impact has been significant: -388 users across 286 Nevada organizations connected -181 members engaged in sector-specific consortiums like workforce and education -Access to 5,000+ federal grant opportunities Mayita Sanchez, OFA Analyst, highlights the broader change: "People are connecting where they would not otherwise. It's opened doors for state agencies to partner with nonprofits and local governments in ways that weren't happening before." Kristen reflects on the progress: "In our first year, we've launched a statewide network with over 200 organizations, facilitated major cross-sector collaborations on federal grants, and built new muscle for Nevada to be competitive." 🚀 OFA's success offers valuable lessons for other states looking to enhance their grant strategies. Last week, the White House announced commitments from across the Public Interest Technology ecosystem, including U.S. Digital Response, to advance the field and bring tech talent into the public sector. https://lnkd.in/gmKesYYV It was an honor to share the stage with leaders representing the pillars of this field—foundations, universities, and nonprofits. Together with Darren Walker, David Siegel, Cynthia Teniente-Matson, kamau bobb, Anne-Marie Slaughter, and Travis Moore, we discussed our collective efforts to enhance public services and promote digital equity. A special thanks to Deirdre Mulligan and Denice Ross for organizing the event and securing commitments from organizations large and small. From humble beginnings as an ad hoc initiative, USDR has grown into a cornerstone of the civic tech ecosystem. Four years on, we've partnered with hundreds of governments and become a vital resource for both public agencies and fellow nonprofits. The urgency of our mission—helping government keep up with the needs of its people, now and for the future—has never been clearer!

🤖 Are chatbots the answer to government service challenges? Not so fast, say Carrie Bishop, Krista Canellakis, and Amanda Rucker. After months of working alongside governments to help them responsibly integrate generative AI, our team members have some thoughts about chatbots - and what governments should be thinking about instead: 👾 Start with user needs, not tech solutions 🔮 Gen AI is powerful, but not a magic wand 🔎 Focus on accessible, well-organized content first Want to learn more about leveraging gen AI effectively in government?
