Trump falsely claims Kamala Harris hasn't always identified as Black: “I don’t know. Is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said, drawing gasps. “She was Indian all the way and then...she became a Black person.”

One of the first checks ever recorded was written in the 11th century, in a marketplace in Basra, in present-day Iraq. There, a merchant issued a “sakk”: instructions to his bank to make a payment from his account. A thousand years later, this form of payment is (finally) disappearing. Target said it would stop accepting checks as of July 15; other retailers, including Whole Foods and Old Navy, have already stopped accepting them. The average American now writes just one check a year, down from three in 2016, according to a Federal Reserve survey. “I absolutely think that we are moving to a world of ‘check zero,’” says Scott Anchin, vice president at the Independent Community Bankers of America. Flawed as checks are, though, they haven’t gone away entirely because many people still depend on them, especially to pay rent and utility bills. But experts say a new kind of payment may finally change that. https://ti.me/3Sy96oJ

Move over, Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. There’s a new celebrity that has taken center stage at the Paris Olympics: a delicious chocolate muffin. The muffins are served in the Olympic Village and went viral after a series of TikToks by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen (@henrikchristians1). The 27-year-old athlete first shared a video featuring the muffin on July 25, where he gave them an 11/10 rating while sharing the other meals he’s eaten at the cafeteria center. Since then, he’s posted numerous videos praising the gooey delight, calling it the “single greatest thing about the Olympic village so far” and declaring himself the “Olympic muffin man.” By TIME’s count, Christiansen has made 11 videos featuring the chocolate muffin. https://ti.me/3WJLIqT
