Please join us next Monday, August 5, 2024, for our prestigious Swing for Hope golf tournament as we honor PCRF Board Chair Stephen Giusto, and his family's journey with pediatric cancer. Steve and his wife Susan's experience began in November 2008 when their daughter Cathryn was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. Cathryn underwent extensive treatment at CHOC Children's and Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), including surgery, six rounds of chemo, a stem cell transplant, radiation and immunotherapy, spending about 295 inpatient days over 13 months.🎗️ Today, Cathryn is thriving and preparing for her junior year at Loyola Marymount University as a Communications major, with plans for a fall semester abroad in London. Recognizing the profound impact of a cancer diagnosis on both children and their families, the Giustos founded the Friends of Cathryn Foundation. This organization supports parents of hospitalized children, particularly mothers on Mother's Day. Each May, they gather and deliver donations and gifts to CHOC Children's, Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, Ronald McDonald House Charities and several out-of-state cancer centers. Thank you, Steve, Susan, Cathryn, and the entire Giusto family, for your dedication to making a difference in the lives of children and families facing pediatric cancer! We look forward to honoring you all. 💛 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gyD6pfGx #PCRFKids #NonProfitOrganization #CancerResearch #CharityGolfTournament #PediatricCancerAwareness

A nonprofit committed to funding breakthrough research and accelerating new cures for pediatric cancers
About us
Since 1982, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation has been chasing one ambitious goal: to make it possible for all children facing childhood cancer to beat their disease and realize their full potential. We will achieve this by powering cures where none exists and giving rise to less toxic regimens that have fewer side effects. While the challenge is huge, we are both optimistic and determined. We have raised and invested more than $57 million in pediatric cancer research that has contributed to groundbreaking advances in treatment — and we are just getting started. In 2022, we turned 40 years young, and we plan to use our insights, experience, and leadership to uncover promising new directions and drive momentum in pediatric cancer research. We know that meaningful progress relies on investing in promising research that advances the learning cycle and yields new insights. We know, too, that identifying breakthroughs means championing and nurturing the researchers who are moving science forward every day. By working together — with the research community, our partners and kind-hearted supporters — we will give flight to the breakthroughs that will help transform pediatric cancer care. Please consider how you or your organization can join us in the fight to save a child's life. Make an investment today through the gift of sponsorship, employee giving, volunteering, donor-advised gifts, or a tax-deductible donation - all of these ways of giving will go directly to improve the care, quality of life, and survival rates of children with cancer.

I am honored to announce that the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation has awarded research grants to 21 recipients for 2024. These trailblazing researchers will receive $1,965,000 to explore new and better treatments for pediatric cancers. Five scientists are receiving funding from us for the first time, while sixteen will continue their ongoing research projects. All recipients are conducting their groundbreaking work at top institutions across the United States, focusing on areas such as Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Immunotherapy/CAR T-cells, Osteosarcoma, Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Learn more about their work on our website: https://lnkd.in/gXkWxSMM Many past researchers funded by PCRF have successfully received National Institute of Health (NIH) funding after proving their initial concepts with our support. As Dr. Elliot Stieglitz, an extended PCRF-supported researcher for 2024, shares: “PCRF was the first to fund the early-stage work that has just received NIH funding for a clinical trial. The holy grail is to start with private funding that allows for follow-on federal funding. Mission accomplished in that sense!” We are excited to support these researchers in expanding our understanding of pediatric cancers, advancing cures, and transforming treatments for children. Our scientific committee and peer reviewers have spent countless hours identifying this year’s awardees, and we are optimistic about the potential they represent for driving innovation and modernizing childhood cancer treatments. #PCRFKids #NonProfitOrganization #PediatricCancer #ChildhoodCancerResearch #PediatricOncology #ResearchGrants
