In honor of Black History Month, we’re focusing on black owned businesses. We discuss everything from the challenges to the triumphs. I traveled to Montclair Brewery where I sat down with Denise Ford Sawadogo who co-owns the brewery with her husband. Did you know there are less than 1% of craft breweries in the U.S. that are owned by African Americans and she’s one of the few. Her story and journey is inspiring. I am honored to have been a featured board member in this past month's National Black Brewers Association monthly newsletter. The National Black Brewers Association (NB2A) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help increase the number of African Americans in the brewing industry at all levels of production, especially ownership and brewmaster. With less than 1% of craft breweries in the United States being owned by African Americans, NB2A promotes black brewing community and exercises political influence by developing and advocating for effective policy. While my years of corporate experience definitely helps me in this entrepreneurial venture, the backing and support of organizations like the NB2A gives me the wind beneath my wings to keep me going on for the long term.
