About us
In 2007, Patrick Nettesheim, a Milwaukee guitar instructor was introduced to Vietnam-era Marine, Dan Van Buskirk. For years Dan wanted to learn to play guitar but felt the lasting effects of combat, in the form of post-traumatic-stress-disorder (PTSD), would make it difficult for him to succeed. After only a few months of working with Patrick, Dan discovered that the strong spirit that helped him throughout his time in Vietnam was all he needed to play music. Together, the men realized that guitar lessons were both opportunities for self-expression and positive human interaction. Dan and Patrick shared what they learned with Veterans at The Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and Guitars for Vets was born. Thousands of our war Veterans are afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In fact, more soldiers have committed suicide since the Vietnam War than have died in actual battle. But many are finding hope in an unlikely place: behind the wood and strings of an acoustic guitar. The healing power of music helps soldiers cope. That’s why we provide veterans with guitars and a forum to learn how to play. But we can’t do it without your help. Help those who fought in our honor rediscover their joy with the power of music.

Congratulations to Jerome Deniz for completing the G4V curriculum at Guitars for Vets DC and earning his brand new Yamaha! Jerome served for 8 years in the U.S. Navy and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom. At his graduation ceremony Jerome performed a stellar rendition of Horse With No Name that had everyone in the house singing along! Jerome said the G4V program allowed him to reconnect with his love of music and helped him focus on the things he's most passionate about. Thank you for your service Jerome! Shout out to Instructor Pete Hill on his first graduate! 👊 #Strumming4Success #GuitarsforVets

G4V was honored to play at the Ford Motor Company Proud to Honor: Bronco Off-Roadeo event near Austin, TX. It was an incredible experience, made even more special by the camaraderie and support shared among all attendees. The bond between Veteran organizations like Blue Star Families, Travis Manion Foundation, and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors was truly inspiring. We were deeply moved by the unity and shared purpose of everyone involved. The off-roading adventure was thrilling, but the real highlight was the unforgettable connections we made with such amazing people. Thank you to everyone who made this event so special! #FordProudToHonor #BroncoOffRoadeo #DoYourPart #4thofJuly
