Since 1902, Goodwill’s concept of building job skills has provided people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to succeed. Our Goodwill opened in 1921 as the 19th Goodwill in the United States, offering its own job training and placement services. Today, Goodwill operates work opportunity centers in Tacoma and Longview, WA. Goodwill is a unique, self-supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit that utilizes donations sold in its 37 stores across a 15-county service area and online sales to fund its programs. Additional funding comes from public and private grants and generous financial contributions from the community.

At Goodwill, we are dedicated to meeting people where they are on their unique journeys. Our team works tirelessly to help individuals find employment, start new careers, and transform donations and thrift purchases into impactful community support. We all share a unified vision: that every person deserves the opportunity to learn, work, and thrive in every aspect of life. In fiscal year 2023, we steadfastly pursued this vision across our mission programs, services, and thrift retail operations. This progress was made possible by the unwavering support of our incredible partners and donors, to whom we extend our deepest gratitude. I'm excited to share the remarkable impact our supporters helped us achieve through stories like Desire's. Desire, a participant in our WorkFirst program and now a Preschool Teacher’s Assistant, beautifully expressed her transformation: "This program was amazing for me and my kids, for my life. I want to move out of public housing. I see myself registering for school to get my Associate’s Degree in childcare…I have options now, whereas before I didn’t.” In FY2023 alone, we delivered education, job training, and career services to 4,266 individuals, many of whom secured jobs with employers such as Amazon, Pierce Transit, and the U.S. Postal Service.
