Happy National Mangrove Day! Today, we celebrate the remarkable impact of mangroves and their essential role in sustaining our planet. These coastal estuaries provide numerous benefits for both people and the planet, including: Coastal Protection: Mangroves act as natural barriers, protecting coastal regions and communities from cyclones, erosion, and rising sea levels. Biodiversity Hotspots: These ecosystems offer vital habitats for diverse marine life, supporting fishers and local livelihoods. Carbon Sequestration: Mangroves are significant carbon sinks, absorbing and storing large amounts of carbon dioxide, aiding in climate change mitigation. With your support, we restore and conserve critical mangrove ecosystems as seen through our initiatives in Kenya and Madagascar. It's always exciting to come across a towering tree when we are out in the field. We are working to protect mature trees as glorious as this one which is probably around 100 years old. This pine tree (Pinus oocarpa) also known locally as ocote, is the national tree of Honduras. Rafael oscar Oqueli Solorzano Eden: People+Planet #conservation

Great day in the field! Our restoration activities are helping conserve an important watershed called La Mora in Olancho, Honduras. Communities depend on this water source for household consumption and agriculture. Record high temperatures and forest degradation are leaving this area vulnerable to droughts. Eden: People+Planet has been working with local communities in the area since 2021 to preserve vital watersheds. Water is life. Rafael oscar Oqueli Solorzano

"We want to sensitise the community to the importance of preserving the forests" - Edgar Chauque, Eden: People+Planet Mozambique's forests face severe threats from extensive tree clearing for agriculture, unsustainable timber logging, and charcoal production for urban fuel. 🌳 Luckily, our partner Eden: People+Planet (formerly Eden Reforestation Projects), is collaborating closely with local communities to restore the forests in the Chimanimani National Park for generations to come. Recognising their work, BBC News has recently produced a captivating 4-minute video showcasing Eden's project in Mozambique. Eden: People+Planet is a non-profit with the mission of fostering healthy relationships between communities and the land on which we all depend through landscape restoration and conservation.
