U.S. 501c4. Our mission: Empower people by building a vibrant ecosystem for simple and secure data transfers.

About us

The Data Transfer Initiative builds open-source direct data transfer tools, the Data Transfer Project, to help empower people to make data portability a meaningful reality. We also work on public policy related to data portability, striving to be a resource to policymakers. DTI is organized as a U.S. 501c4, and so in contrast to a trade association which first and foremost serves the interests of its partners, our efforts and strategies are designed to serve our mission, which is to "Empower people by building a vibrant ecosystem for simple and secure data transfers." DTI is structured in part to work alongside our institutional partners and members who are bringing DTP powered data transfer tools to billions of people; and in part to deliver independent software development and community investment in service of our mission.
