    What do you think about case studies (aka. take home assessments) in the hiring process? This is a very common use case in recruitment, but there is a catch. I have seen many companies using them in a very wrong way, here are some👇 🚫 Using a real problem, asking candidates to solve ( free work) 🚫 Sending case study right after application, without even talking to the candidates 🚫 Preparing case studies that would take 5-10 hours of candidates' time. 🚫 Not giving any feedback after a case study submission, leaving the candidates with a generic rejection email 🚫 Poorly setup case studies that are lacking context, hard to understand what the ask is On the other hand, resume is just a paper and does not justifies your ability to do the work. Therefore, case studies are a great way to measure the abilities. I have been using case studies in my hiring process and I find them very beneficial if used correctly. Here are a few rules I came up with: ✅ Use a situation from lessons learned, and prepare it with idiot proof context ✅ Do it yourself first as a hiring manager, and make sure the time spend does not exceed 30 mins, so that candidates can actually complete it within 2 hours. ✅ Ask candidates to work on a case study only after you had an initial call, and communicate clearly the purpose of this step. ✅ Give feedback for each case study you receive, even if it is a rejection. ✅ In the next interview, always include time to discuss the case study submission While many companies are using case studies, only a few of them pay attention to do it right. I will go first - Clipboard Health is one of the bad examples, asking to work on a 5-10 hours case without any human interaction, and leaving you with no feedback, just a generic rejection email)

    What is the best job board for remote jobs? Well, Linkedin seems to be the best? But is it? There is no option of Regional of worldwide posting on Linkedin, so it is very hard to find what you are looking for, esp. if you are not in the USA. Then where should you look? Although they are the newest, Remote's job board, launched in the last quarter of 2023, is by far the best platform. Why? There is no ads available for employers, you see the jobs that are posted without any sort order managed by promotional payments. It has more jobs then any other remote job platform. No login needed, no BS. Even though they still need improvements, they are still the best place to check if you are searching for a remote opportunity.     What do you think about the usage of Abbreviations? Honestly, sometimes it makes it very difficult to understand a sentence that includes abbreviations. For Example: What does PM mean? According to the industry it can mean - Project Manager - Product Manager - Property Manager - Prime Minister - Private Message - and so on Why not use the long version? 🤷♂️

    Having a top rated resume might not be enough for you to get an interview. What work? Tailoring your resume to the job description. It seems time consuming, but it works. Here are some tips that might help you: 👉 Adjust your summary to the role summary in the job description where it says: "... is looking for a JOB TITLE to ...[this part is the part you should focus on]" 👉 Update your skills section according to the job description 👉 Take the "what you will do"or "Responsibilities"part of the job description and show this in your recent roles with the following format: [what did you do] + [what impact it had > use numbers here] Remember, the recruiters who are screening your resume want to see the qualifications and experience in your resume, not guess it from your resume. Therefore, tailoring the resume results with recruiter seeing what they are looking for, and increasing the chances for you to get an interview. #resumetips #hiring #jobseekers

    Recruiters are focused on filling open vacancies, not finding you a job. Avoid sending your resume unsolicited - it's not the right approach. Before reaching out, ensure the person is hiring and the role matches your expertise. Most recruiters receive countless messages and can't assist everyone. I, too, face this challenge and can't help 99% of those who send me their resumes. This is the reason I created hidden-jobs.com, mostly focusing on companies that hire remotely.

    Remote's Marcelo Lebre recently announced that they will no longer be looking for "years of experience" for their hiring needs. This is a great approach but will it be really practical? I saw that Toggl started this approach a while ago, to apply, you had to take a quick test to show that you can actually do the job. An amazing approach, I though at that time. (I still thinks so) But from my experience, they were failing so hard, since I know many people who got 90% or even 100% from that initial test but never get an interview. So that made it clear they were checking the CVs even though they say they didn't. I believe Remote will have a better system as Job van der Voort states in the article he wrote: https://lnkd.in/eVYV_YRy But I am still wondering, how will they solve the screening bias whern the demonstration is not the first step.
