📚 Eye-Opening Facts About Women in the Workplace 📚 Did you know that women who are perceived as highly competent are often seen as less likeable, while those who are very likeable are frequently viewed as less competent? These are some wild statistics that reveal the challenging double bind women face in the professional world. I recently revisited Chapter 3 of Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In," titled "Success and Likeability," and it sheds light on these fascinating yet frustrating dynamics: 1. The Double Bind for Women: Women often face a "double bind" where success can make them less liked, while being liked can lead to perceptions of lower competence. It's a tough balancing act that unfairly penalizes women in leadership. 2. The Heidi/Howard Study: An experiment at Columbia Business School really highlights this issue. Students were given the same case study but with different names: "Heidi" and "Howard." Heidi was seen as competent but less likeable, while Howard was liked and respected. The only difference? Their names. 3. Gender Stereotypes: Society often expects women to be nurturing and men to be assertive. When women display leadership traits, they can face backlash for violating these gender norms, being perceived as less warm and more selfish. 4. Competence vs. Likeability Trade-off: There's a perception that women who are highly intelligent or competent are less nice, and those who are very nice are less intelligent. This stereotype creates additional hurdles for women aiming to advance in their careers. 5. Self-fulfilling Prophecy: These biases can lead women to hesitate in seeking leadership roles or asserting themselves, perpetuating the cycle of underrepresentation in leadership positions. 6. Importance of Mentorship: Sandberg emphasizes the crucial role of mentorship and sponsorship for women. Having mentors who believe in and support women's capabilities can help navigate these professional challenges and overcome biases. At Catch+Release, we're proud to be a women-founded and women-led company that actively challenges these biases. Our culture celebrates competence, likeability, and everything in between. We believe in supporting and uplifting each other, creating an environment where everyone can succeed based on their merits. 💪 #LeanIn #WomenInLeadership #GenderEquality #Mentorship #ProfessionalGrowth #CatchAndRelease

Marketer | Storyteller | Builder | I help startups refine and scale their go-to-market

I just finished my 25th marketing channel audit (with the amazing marketing team at Catch+Release nonetheless!) and I'm sharing the template with you below👇. What started as a way to organize my thoughts for job interview... ... morphed into a tool I used for quarterly OKR and competitive intel snapshots ... and now has become a vehicle for go-to-market conversations with Cervin Ventures' portfolio companies. These audits aren't about pointing fingers. They're a mechanism for facilitating a data-driven conversation about a company's GTM motion -- and where we may be leading, lagging or need to figure out. Having completed 25 audits, I can tell you this structured approach will always find: 🏛 some marketing fundamental you overlooked 🧠 a competitor doing something very smart that warrants taking a look 🔬 areas for your team to explore and experiment Feel free to download the template from the comments and conduct your own audit today: https://lnkd.in/gF5QcTup And if you come up with new metrics, or ways to consistently measure competitive behavior, I'd love to hear your suggestions.
