Leading Youth to Livelong Values, Service, and Achievement
About us
The Sam Houston Area Council serves approximately 25,000 youth in 16 southeast Texas counties through the dedicated service and leadership of over 10,000 adult volunteers. Scouting is completely funded by the generosity of those who believe in its mission. Support of Scouting provides programs, services, professional support, as well as year-round outdoor programs -- all designed to lead youth to lifelong values, service, and achievement. Scouting teaches values and the importance of having strong beliefs, making good choices and striving for the highest of ideals. At every regular meeting, a Scout recites the Scout Oath, which reminds Scouts of their duties to God, their country and their communities. The Scout Law pledges young men and women to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. Scouting teaches practical first aid skills, swimming, canoeing, backpacking and camping, as well as a love and respect for the outdoors. Scouting teaches kindness -- and urges Scouts to do a good turn daily for others. The Sam Houston Area Council's services area includes the following counties of Southeast Texas: Austin, Brazos, Burleson, (portion of) Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Grimes, Harris, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, (portion of) Trinity, Walker, Waller, Washington, and Wharton.

SHAC’s vision is to make this clay tournament not only a great networking event for those that volunteer or work with the Council, but a yearly event where people can come and support the Scouting initiatives of the Sam Houston Area Council, through their participation and/or sponsorship. Our clay shoot is open to companies and organizations that want to form a team. SHAC is sponsoring all event costs. Our goal for this event is to grow larger every year. We want to raise awareness about all the good things that SHAC does and to raise money so that they can continue to help families participate and learn leaderships skills through ScoutReach at no cost to them or their family. SHAC will be holding its 27 th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament on October 17th , 2024 at the Greater Houston Sports Club, conveniently located at 6700 McHard RD, Houston, TX 77053. Each year at the Sam Houston Area Council Sports breakfast, we highlight the impact and importance of Scouting through the lens of one of our members. This year the Sports Breakfast featured Alejandro (Alex) Bayon-Barrera who delivered an emotional and impactful story of how he and his Eagle Scout Service Project changed the world. When you hear this story, it will both evoke emotion and inspire you. Scouting is changing the world one young person at a time. We are proud to share that Alejandro has been named the National Service Territory 7 recipient of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for 2023.
