On Monday, the older adults of Franklin Field Apartments in Dorchester were pleased to receive a coffee hour visit from City Councilor Brian Worrell and his Senior Advisor Angela Yarde. Councilor Worrell listened to residents’ concerns and made note of issues they discussed. Afterwards, Councilor Worrell hosted a few games of bingo, with three lucky residents winning prizes from his office. Residents had a wonderful time connecting with Councilor Worrell and making their voices heard. Thank you for visiting, Councilor Worrell! We appreciate your commitment to keeping people of all ages involved in local community development! #CommunityEngagement #LocalLeadership #CivicEngagement #NeighborhoodConnections

Last Thursday, the supportive housing residents of Codman Square Apartments were honored to host State Senator Nick Collins for breakfast and a chat. Senator Collins answered many questions about labor agreements, bills, immigration, and other changes coming in Boston. He also reminded residents of the upcoming election in November and the importance of making your voice heard on the ballot. Residents greatly appreciated Senator Collins’s candidness and enjoyed a wonderful morning with him. Thank you to Senator Collins for helping our older adults stay involved in our community development! #BostonCommunity #SupportiveHousing #ElderlyEngagement

As you’re enjoying the summer, be sure to keep your skin’s health in mind! Though the bright sunlight is perfect for outdoor activities, it’s also a source of harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. That’s why we recognize July as UV Protection Awareness Month to spread awareness on how UV rays are the root cause of most skin cancers, and to encourage you to protect your skin this summer. To protect yourself from UV rays, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you #PracticeSafeSun by seeking shade when outside, wearing sun-protective clothing such as hats, and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. By diligently following these steps, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from harmful UV rays. #UVProtectionAwarenessMonth #PracticeSafeSun #SunSafety #DermatologyTips #SkinCancerPrevention #SkinHealth

On #IndependenceDay, we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, formalizing the thirteen colonies’ decision to pursue independence from British rule. This day marks the beginning of the United States of America and commemorates all that our nation stands for: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Independence is a natural right for people of all ages and lifestyles. That’s why Boston Senior Home Care works to build a supportive network of community and home-based resources, championing the right of older adults and people with disabilities to age independently at home. With Boston’s historical role in the American Revolution, the 4th of July is certainly a time for great national pride and celebration. We encourage you to enjoy the citywide festivities, such as the dramatic reading of the Declaration at the Old State House and the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Esplanade. Have a happy #4thOfJuly! #IndependentAging #CommunityCelebration #FourthOfJuly #NationalPride
