About us
Bebashi was founded in 1985 in response to the increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS in the African American community of Philadelphia. We are a full-service HIV/AIDS case management agency with a special interest in serving low-income people of color with HIV disease. Our mission is to provide culturally sensitive health related information, direct service, and technical assistance in the areas of sexual health and prevention of sexually transmitted disease to the urban community. Since our founding, we have expanded our services to include a breast health program and an emergency food bank. We offer free mammogram referrals to women in underserved populations at greater risk for breast cancer, and our food bank provides meals to thousands of people a year. We reach tons of people in the Philadelphia area through our testing services, support groups, health fairs, community outreach, food bank, case management, and much more!

✨ Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Compass Pro Bono Volunteer Celebration and Networking Mixer! Compass Pro Bono’s mission is to provide nonprofits with equitable access to high-quality business strategy consulting and offer local business professionals next-minded, socially responsible leadership opportunities that will impact the Greater Philadelphia region for a lifetime. Thank you Melinda Johnson, EdD & Tamica Tanksley for allowing me to have the space to share my experience with the attendees; it was truly an honor! I was fortunate this year to be a project leader for the Bebashi - Transition to Hope strategic alignment project under the direction of the amazing Sebrina Tate. Bebashi’s mission is to empower Black and Brown people to enhance the quality of their health and overall well-being by providing access to culturally sensitive, high-quality healthcare, HIV/AIDS services, health education, and social services. Their vision is a world where all individuals, regardless of their background, have the resources and support to achieve optimal health and well-being. It was incredibly rewarding to finally meet in person some of the amazing people I’ve worked with virtually over the past five months. Connecting face-to-face and celebrating our collective efforts made the evening truly special. Shout out to Brittanie Thomas, MS., MA. For joining me. Looking forward to continuing our impactful work together! . . #CompassProBono #VolunteerCelebration #NetworkingMixer #Bebashi #CommunityImpact #SocialGood #PhillyNonprofits #Leadership #Equity #PhillyProud #MakingADifference #TogetherWeCan

Happy Juneteenth from Bebashi ⭐️ Today, we celebrate freedom, and resilience of African Americans. Juneteenth marks a significant milestone in our nation’s history, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It’s a day to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us and to honor their enduring spirit. At Bebashi, we are committed to fostering hope, empowerment, and equity within our community. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #CelebrateHeritage #Bebashi

Thanks you so much to our partners at Vetri Community Partnership ! We appreciate everything you do ❤️
Vetri Community Partnership's partnership with The Emerson Group goes back more than 15 years and last week, it was such a pleasure to welcome their staff and interns into our Teaching Kitchen for a team-building volunteer activity. Together, they prepared our Moroccan couscous and chickpea and carrot salad to nourish both themselves and our neighbors at Bebashi - Transition to Hope. 💚 🧡 💙 If you are interested in bringing your company to the Teaching Kitchen to cook together, shoot me a message!

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month with a Mission for Health Equity 🌈 We are thrilled to share that AmeriHealth Caritas volunteers from our Care Crew have joined forces with Bebashi - Transition to Hope, marking a significant step towards health equity and inclusivity. As we celebrate June as Pride Month, it’s essential to ensure that everyone, regardless of how they identify, has access to the proper medical resources. Bebashi’s Trans Necessities Closet, the first of its kind in Philadelphia, embodies this commitment. It offers a safe space where trans and gender non-conforming individuals can access gender-affirming clothing and accessories, learn about LGBTQ+ health and wellness, and receive vital referrals for services such as legal name changes, gender marker changes for IDs, hormone replacement therapy, and gender confirmation therapy. Our team is proud to support such a groundbreaking initiative that not only addresses the immediate needs of the trans community but also paves the way for a more inclusive and equitable future. By volunteering our time and resources, we are leading the charge in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life. A special thank you to the Executive Director of Bebashi Sebrina Tate & Nafisah Houston, MS for allowing us to be on-site and participate in such an amazing cause. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s continue to champion health equity and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger. #PrideMonth #HealthEquity #AmeriHealthCaritas #Bebashi #LGBTQ+ #TransRights #CommunitySupport #InclusiveHealthcare
