Nearly 2 1/2 centuries since the project of perfecting our union began, we can celebrate our progress toward a truly multiracial democracy but should never forget how fragile those hard-fought gains are. It is a project we must fight to protect and expand daily. There is no starker reminder of the fragility of our democracy than recent #SCOTUS decisions—decisions that undermine the rights of the most vulnerable and decisions that all but eliminate accountability for the most powerful. Join us on Tues., July 9 for a virtual panel discussion examining some of the most consequential cases of the 2023-2024 Term. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gHJdURJz

The Court’s decision in Trump v. U.S. is nothing short of terrifying. During oral argument, several justices insisted they were uninterested in the underlying facts of this case but what may occur in the future. Yet, in the majority opinion, such worries for the future are swatted away condescendingly, with concerns raised by the dissent characterized as “fear mongering on the basis of extreme hypotheticals about a future where the President ‘feels empowered to violate federal criminal law.’” Read more analysis: https://lnkd.in/g5EF6XZH
