Define con que otro sistemas ha de conectarse y como debe de hacerlo, bajo que protocolos MQTT, HTTP, CoAP. Conociendo eso podrás buscar estándares de interfaces, para el intercambio de información API RESTful y demás. Aparte debes conocer la prioridad de tu sistema con respecto a otros y cada cuanto debe recibir o enviar información al restos de sistemas. También debes tener en cuenta el tamaño de los mensajes, ya que en el sistema puede haber elementos con recursos muy limitados o con falta de ajuste a tu información. Deberías plantear también como vas a mantener y actualizar los dispositivos, y como afectará eso al resto de sistemas.
