I honestly have NO clue why LinkedIn figured that I should be one of the experts to comment on this piece. If I look at my professional past, I would actually argue the opposite. So perhaps I take a different approach and will tell you what will NOT get you promoted. Don't be direct and blunt, better package it a bit more diplomatically. Don't solely focus on the customer, your boss has an ego (belly) that needs to be rubbed occasionally. Don't address mistakes as mistakes, talk about them as learning opportunities. Don't suggest things in meetings, whisper them to your boss so he/she can take the credit. Don't wait for your boss to give you credit, but consistently show him/her what you have achieved.
