Similarly, it can be very negative if your boss gets the sensation your ambition is related to earning more money. The ambition of progressing in your professional career should be a great plan and, at the same time, a nice though you live with every day. On top of that you should be prepared in case it takes some time to happen. Don't be anxious about it and specially do not show your boss you have to go up in the organogram against all odds and immediately.
