E-3 A Train to Catch
E-3: A Train to Catch is the third mission for the Treacherous Mansion. At last, the true culprit is revealed. Luigi must stop at nothing to find King Boo and his brother! In this Luigi's Mansion 2 HD walkthrough, we will guide you through every step of the level, including all Boo and Gem locations.
Inner Courtyard
Press X to reassemble the fan on the staircase and use the Poltergust to spin it so that the top of the staircase will lead you to the right wing. Climb up the stairs and enter the East Corridor.
East Corridor
Follow the trail of coins to the Train Exhibit, where a Greenie will quite rudely slam the door on Luigi. Several Creepers will also appear at this point, so watch your step!
When the ghosts are gone, head into the door beside the Train Exhibit to enter the Study.
Study
There is a book missing from the shelf in the Study, and a quick peek in the mirror shows exactly where it is. Reveal the book with the Dark-Light and place it on the bookshelf to summon an Empowered Poltergeist who steals it back before fleeing.
The Professor will inform you that the ghost has moved to the other side of the mansion, so go back to the Inner Courtyard and move the stairs to the left. Make your way through the West Corridor and into the Aviation Exhibit.
Aviation Exhibit
Diamond #8: Pull one of the sandbags on the hot air balloon in the Aviation Exhibit. An Empowered Hider and two Greenies will spring forth. Capture them and pull the other sandbag to reveal a gem.
Money Spots: Several gold spiders and mice will appear in the West Corridor, so be on the lookout for those. In the Aviation Room, use the Poltergust on the propeller of the model plane to guide it around the room and get rewarded with cash. In the Archives, approach several closed boxes. Open the bottom left, top right, top left, and bottom right to reveal a Goldie.
Watch out for the Creepers lying in wait in the West Corridor, and take them out before proceeding into the Space Exhibit. Reveal the door with your Dark-Light and make your way through.
Space Exhibit
Money Spot: You may have noticed the Goldie taunting you from the rocket on the right. Get a log from the Jungle Exhibit, light it on fire in the Ancient Exhibit, and return to the Space Exhibit to light the fuse. The Goldie will blast off with the rocket. Leave and come back to hear an explosion and find a very disoriented ghost. Capture him for some money.
Yank the chain on the spaceship on the far left and activate the portal back to the Front Entrance. Then look into the telescope to spy on the Poltergeist that stole your book. Exit the telescope to find yourself in space with the Poltergeist. Much like the battle with the Ancient Poltergeist, this fight will involve tracking him amongst the stars and dodging any projectiles he throws at you.
After you attempt to capture the ghost, the asteroid belt you're standing on will start spinning while the ghost throws bombs in your direction. Keep moving to find a spot free of bombs and wait until the Poltergeist returns to the stars to try capturing him again.
Repeat the process until he is defeated, and the book is yours. Head back to the East Corridor and into the Nautical Exhibit to start looking for a way to return the book to the Study.
Nautical Exhibit
Diamond #9 - After taking control of the Nautical Exhibit, activate the portal and grab a log from the Jungle Exhibit. Bring the log back and dump it on the platform on the left of the ship to lower the helm blocking the door on the right. Head out the door to find a chest with a gem.
An Empowered Slammer will be 'steering' the room, and the heavy fog will make your Strobosope useless. Start by closing the porthole with the Poltergust, then suck the fog up to clear the room. Once you can see again, attack the Empowered Slammer, followed by an Empowered Greenie and Helmet Greenie.
Defeat them all to get access to the helm. By using the Poltergust to point the compass north, the portal door will switch to the Study. Now you can bring the book back where it belongs!
Study
Diamond #10: There are several things to do before you enter the Train Exhibit that you might not have time for later. To begin, grab one of the Balloon Berries from the Study and enter the portal to return to the Front Entrance. Float upwards and to the right to find a small landing with a gargoyle holding a blue book in his mouth. Make the gargoyle drop the book and bring it back to its rightful place in the Dark Age Exhibit to find a gem.
Diamond #11: Take a Balloon Berry from the Study and go through the portal to the Jungle Exhibit. Float up to the upper level and look for a gold Balloon Berry. Grab it to start a coin-based minigame. The trick is to fly into the moving coins to grab them faster. Collect all of the coins in time to be rewarded with a gem.
Diamond #12: Grab a Balloon Berry from the Study and take the portal to the Ice Age Exhibit. Float up to the upper level and look for a gold Balloon Berry to start the next minigame. Follow the paths of coins and collect them all before time runs out. The prize is a chest with a gem inside.
Hidden Boo: Booreaucrat - Grab a Balloon Berry from the Study and go to the Dark Age Exhibit. Float to the upper level to find a gold Balloon Berry and start the next minigame. Grab all the coins before time runs out to reveal a chest with the Boo inside.
Money Spot: Take a Balloon Berry from the Study and go to the Ancient Exhibit to find several chests and a gold Balloon Berry. Grab the berry to start the minigame. Float against the current of coins to collect them in time and retrieve your prize.
Take the book that you won back from the Poltergeist into the Study and place it in the bookshelf to open a path to the Train Exhibit.
Train Exhibit
Diamond #13: Use the Dark-Light on the floor to reveal a missing set of tracks, which brings a large train into the room. Step onto the train for the ride of your life and collect the gem for your troubles.
Money Spot: Flash the giant model train on the left side of the room for some quick cash!
Prepare to be ambushed by a truly terrible combo - Empowered Hiders and Empowered Sneakers. Keep your eyes out for projectiles and Sneakers at all times. Try to get the Hiders on one side of the room while you lure the Sneaker to the other.
When they are finished, the room will be yours and the mission will be complete. Answer the Professor's call to head back to the Lab and prepare for your next quest, E-4 Ambush Maneuver.
