Filme Noire set in 1950’s LA. Perfect blend of 2D visual novel genre, plus action to make it engaging. Hilarious, quirky, fun storyline. Would highly recommend anyone who focuses on game narratives.

A masterpiece of a game. Highlights were its story & dialogue, hilariously Gen Z, self-deprecating, and witty. It wove near every play pattern (farming, RPG, restaurant sim, and novel harpooning) into a single game. Would highly recommend.

The top of the farming sim/RPG category, equivalent to Harvest Moon & Stardew Valley.
The main story, dialogue, and character development in the best of the 3. Taking place in a worn-down desert town led by an anti-tech religion, I was invested in the success of the town & the character stories around it.
The main “builder” mechanic is repeatable, unique enough, and fun.
Still playing through the end stories, but has me hooked for 50+ hours

A classic whose quality *wont* stand the test of time.
Revisited with friends for a multiplayer game, with limited options of Native American, Japanese, and the Dutch. While for 2005 graphics this was advanced, the lack of tutorials, confusing science/advancement paths, and limited customizability left it feeling limited & a bit juvenile.
Happy that so many real-time historical strategy are in the market, and while Age of Empires is a classic, this doesn’t deserve revisiting in 2023.

For all the scientific history fans, this is a great idle game. The tap-tap mechanic & spanning tree makes for an easy learning curve, but can draw flat after a couple days of play.
I can imagine this game sitting perfectly in an elementary school classroom, making learning about the gaseous atmosphere of Venus or the eukaryotic cell.

Phenomenal play mechanic, RPG brought to mobile.
While slaying dinosaurs, explore your surroundings & level up equipment.
Whole game revolves around killing 7 different types of beasts, which after a couple of hours of playtime, actually becomes difficult (which is good!)
Leveling up the armor is what you work towards, which has kept me entertained for weeks.
The game will obviously have to evolve to stay relevant, seeing how the Halloween event goes, and any upcoming updates.

My Little Universe takes approachability to the maximum.
A general “resource collector” game, you begin on a small island & need to gather resources to buy “hexes” to expand your island, upgrade tools, and unlock the end-game portal.
They achieved max approachability via simplicity in controls, fast paced accumulation, and new terrains to explore.
While felt more like a mobile game on console, it kept me entertained for the full 90 minute demo, and would recommend for anyone who needs a relaxed, yet engaging bite of entertainment.

Demo’d and enjoyed 3 things:
1) Storyline & characters hook you from the very beginning.
2) Cinematic opening within a massive mirror room.
3) Gives you a flavor of combat, simple yet nuanced enjoy to feel immersive.

Relaxed fishing sim that felt more like a hyper-casual mobile game than something found on Switch. Team17 should’ve built more of a storyline or something to give additional flavor, since basic fishing mechanic gets old quickly. Nothing to “hook” me, no pun intended.

Quite the evolution of the Pikmin franchise. Though like Pokémon & Paper Mario, the iterations have made the genre “younger”. 3 ways I felt this: ease over challenge, feels “washed” of mature personalities, and comes at the sake of depth. An example would be the Pikmin “dog”, catering to younger audiences, but the play mechanic felt abstracted from the pure Pikmin fun.
On the flip side, the player customization was uniquely cool, while still feeling aesthetically-aligned. The adventure had a narrative, and silly fun that Nintendo thrives on.
Good reinvention of the game, and hope the target 10 year olds enjoy it.

Extremely easy-to-pick-up fighter game. Navigation felt like Soul Caliber, and character design made it feel like I was in Dragon Ball Z. For a Smash-like game, plays could build recognizability with the story. Genre is less up my alley, but would give it a full play-through on the right occasion.

A unique click-and-point story game with a fascinating mechanic of “possessing” objects. Added an element of puzzles, timing, and curiosity to the usual iSpy games. Some of the dialogue was long-winded, but the extreme scenarios (murder, killing dogs) juxtaposed with gentle intentions (Xmas trees, rolling donuts, helping puppies, etc) gave it a playful feeling. Would recommend.

A relaxed strategy game around conquering planets & area control. The play pattern was simple & fun, though could be a bit more advanced. Point & click on Switch was a bit hard to navigate, maybe that made for a healthy challenge, but maybe it was a bit annoying. Can imagine sessions of 15-30 minutes. Overall would recommend for a flight or relaxing wind down.
